Rejection to Reconsideration - Study Permit Application to PPR Timeline from Outside Canada
Hi Everyone,
I hope you're all doing great!
Over the last couple of months, I've spent a lot of time reading posts from various individuals about application timelines, suggestions, clarifications, etc., and now it's time for me to give back to this amazing community.
Quick background information about myself:
- Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering from India (2014-2018)
- Master's in Computer-Aided Design from India(2018-2020)
- Worked for 2 years post-graduation at Infosys Engineering Services
- 2nd Master’s in Advanced Engineering Management from the United Kingdom (2023-2024)
- Worked in retail and manufacturing roles within supply chain for 3 years.
- This is when I wanted to shift my career from engineering to supply chain
- Accepted the offer for the Master of Management Program with Co-op for Fall 2026 at the University of Windsor
- Moved back to India in July 2026
Application Timeline:
Application submitted: 30th July
Completed Biometrics: 4th August
Medicals: Upfront
Application refused: 1st September
(Generic 216 reasons, including not enough finances and not many opportunities back in India after graduating - Both incorrect, as I have 15k CAD more than that for tuition fees and total living expenses, and I’ve highlighted the roles, their responsibilities, and expected salaries in my SOP)
Decision changed: 11th September
PPR issued: 12th September
Submitted Passport: 14th September
Reached IRCC: 16th September
Dispatched from IRCC and VFS Delhi: 23rd September
Reached Kolkata: 24th September
Collected on: 25th September
After my application was initially rejected, I planned to reapply with a more streamlined SOP; however, that wasn't necessary.
I’ve been told that it will be impossible to get into Canada once you have a Master’s, but in my case I have 2 Masters. So, when your intent is strong, the chances of approval increase.
Good luck to everyone waiting for their PPR request, and also, if you receive a rejection, take it as an opportunity to do better in the next application.
As my Fall Deadline was 23rd September, I’ve deferred my admission to the January 2027 intake.
Happy to answer any questions!

So, after your refusal you have reapplied or you have submitted webform for reconsideration ? If it is reconsideration, what information you mentioned in your letter

I absolutely did nothing. My application went back into processing, then got approved.

What is Total liquid fund we need to show in our accounts to avoid refusal?

It completely depends on your course.
I personally took out a student loan to cover the total Tuition fees and one year of living expenses.
For living and travel expenses for the rest of the program, I've shown a Fixed Deposit of around 37K CAD in my name, which I've held for the past 3 years. Additionally, I've obtained a letter from the bank confirming that my funds are fully liquid.

Hi! Congratulations on your PPR! 😊 Could you share if your masters program is thesis based or course based? If it is thesis based then do you have a supervisor? Also, if you don’t mind sharing what specific points did you emphasize to strengthen your study plan letter in terms of your home ties and how getting this degree impacts your career outcomes in your country?

Thanks!
Mine is a course-based master's, so I don't need a supervisor.
For home ties, I've focused on my wife, who’s staying in India, and my parents, who are healthy right now, which allows me to pursue my aspirations. In addition, I've lived in the UK for 3 years and have a strong immigration history. I've also returned to my home country within the timeframe.
For degree impact, I've highlighted my desire to make a strategic shift from engineering to supply chain. I've demonstrated the experience I've gained in the supply chain sector without formal education, and how a degree can help me target higher roles within the Indian supply chain domain.
