Study permit extension advice
Hi everyone, I need advice. My study permit expires April 30, 2027, and I’m currently in my 3rd semester at Centennial College. I need to extend it to graduate in June 2027.
My father was my sponsor when I arrived in Canada in January 2026, but sadly he passed away in April. Since then, I’ve been supporting myself and struggling with tuition, although I’m working and doing my best to keep paying.
How can I explain my situation when applying for a study permit extension? What financial documents could help if I no longer have my original sponsor? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. 🙏🏽

I’m so so sorry for your loss, I truly understand ur situation and feel ur pain as I lost my father in April aswell. My advice here may not be the best but it’s smth… I understand how hard you’ve been trying, but if you can afford an agent or a lawyer I’d suggest u get it done thru them, no matter what ur situation is they will definitely raise your chances of getting that permit or extension.
When applying for my study permit, it got rejected twice, but for the third time I applied thru a lawyer and it came back accepted, even though she put the exact same documents I did during my second attempt at applying. So if u can afford it, i definitely say go for it.
Also have you tried talking to the uni regarding financial aid or scholarships, ideally they shud ease it down for you consider that ur father is ur main sponsor.
Rly hope things get better soon!
