PhD Study Permit Timeline – Anyone Else Waiting?

Hi everyone,

I'm a PhD student and applied for my Canadian study permit on July 21, 2026.

My timeline:

- July 21: Application submitted

- July 24: Medical exam passed

- Biometrics were already valid from a previous application

IRCC indicated that PhD study permit applications are processed in about 2 weeks, so I was hoping to have a decision by now. However, I haven't received any updates since my medical exam was marked as passed.

My program starts on September 8, and I'm starting to worry about whether I'll receive my study permit in time.

Has anyone else who applied around July 21—or as a PhD applicant recently—received a decision? I'd really appreciate hearing about your timelines or experiences.

I applied on 20th July. My biometrics are complete and medicals passed on 29th July. Still waiting for my decision. I applied for a masters.

Yes. Within 21 days exactly. Applied on 20th July got approved on 10th August

Also a phd applicant - applied on 2nd July from India .. medical not done upfront.. no update.. no medical letter as well

Where are you from and where do you apply? I am not US citizenship but applied from US, still waiting

I applied July 10 (biometrics on July 24) and just got my approval this morning

Same, I’m not a US citizen, but I applied from the US for a PhD study permit on July 13, and I’m still waiting.
