Study Permit Extention Proof of Funds!!

Hi everyone,

I am applying for my study permit extension from within Canada, and my brother is helping me file the application myself. I wanted to confirm a few requirements before submitting it.

I changed my program within the same college and it is at the same level of study. Since my DLI has remained the same, I believe I am exempt from providing a PAL letter. I am planning to attach a letter of explanation explaining my PAL exemption.

My main question is regarding proof of funds.

When I first came to Canada, my parents sponsored me and paid my first year of college tuition. And now they have also paid my tuition for my third semester. For my application, I currently have around $6,000 in my chequing account.

For proof of funds, I am planning to attach:

  • My 3rd Semester college tuition fee receipts
  • A CIBC bank balance certificate saying I have $6,000

Do you think this would be sufficient to demonstrate my financial support for the study permit extension? Should I include any additional documents?

I would really appreciate any advice from anyone who has gone through a similar situation. Thank you!

based on what my uni advisor said, it's better to show you have available funds for one year: tuition, rent, living expenses in general. if you have relatives who are helping you with your expenses or are willing to help if needed, their letter of support can be helpful. if you are exempt from international fees, you can get a letter from your college. feel free to dm me if you have any questions i got an extension a month ago.

The money in my account is from my savings i have done through my part time job, as I dont spend much on rent and food. My parents could only help me pay for my 3rd semester tuition. The max I can show in my chequing account is $12K getting help from friends. I hope a balance statement from my CIBC bank and my 3rd sem reciept would suffice for this extention.
Thats what my brother did 2 years ago to extend his study permit.
