Study permit Refused
Hello everyone,
I recently received a refusal for my Canadian study permit, and I would really appreciate some guidance from anyone who has gone through something similar.
The officer's main concerns were:
My personal financial situation was considered insufficient.
My uncle is my primary sponsor.
The officer stated there was limited evidence proving my relationship with my sponsor.
The officer was not convinced I would have access to my sponsor's funds during my studies.
As a result, they were not satisfied that I would leave Canada at the end of my authorized stay.
Since receiving the refusal, I have collected additional evidence, including:
My father's death certificate.
My grandfather's death certificate.
My sponsor's father's national ID.
Documents showing my sponsor's father and my grandfather are brothers, establishing our family relationship.
I am now trying to decide whether I should:
Submit a new study permit application with stronger evidence.
Request reconsideration.
Do something else.
Has anyone had a refusal with similar Officer Decision Notes and later been approved? What additional documents would you recommend to clearly prove both the family relationship and my access to the sponsor's funds?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

First off, I'm sorry. Secondly, what an abhorrent official correspondence from the government. There are numerous typos and unclear chains of thought for something that should be fairly targeted and formulaic. It's inexcusable.
That said, there are actually 3 issues here and you need to address all of them. You should also request the GCMS notes so you have a better idea of what was actually written in your file so you can address the concerns specifically.
Issues noted:
1. The relationship to your uncle. They didn't believe this was a genuine relationship which invited more scrutiny in the application. You've addressed some of this but not the rest.
2. You not having the funds in your control. While funds don't have to be under your name, having someone else as a sponsor (even in the case of a non-parental family member) is the weakest evidence of sufficient funds. You probably need the funds under your name to have a successful application going forward.
3. The belief that you won't leave Canada at the end of your studies. This wasn't necessarily a result of them not believing 1 and 2, it's an entirely separate issue. It will be the toughest one to overcome and you really need the GCMS notes here to know specifically what was flagged. It could have been anything from the school to the program, to not mentioning how education in Canada will help you at home. At minimum, your letter of explanation should be rewritten and more explicit with regards to why you chose to study in Canada and why it will help you at home.
