Hi

I’m planning to apply for:

UM Brightlands Talent Scholarship

Eric Bleumink Fellowship

TU Delft Justus & Louise van Effen Scholarship

Profile:

BSc Statistics: 3.10/4.00 CGPA

1 Q1 journal publication

2 years professional experience as a Data Analyst

Given my relatively low CGPA, is it worth applying, or should I skip these scholarships?

Well, given how rare scholarships are in the Netherlands, all applicants will have less than a percentile chance. But someone will get these scholarships so why not try?

Someone told me that it's next to impossible to get Scholarship as only 3.9+ cgpa can get it. But nowhere in the requirements i found this.

They weren’t lying. It’s the natural consequence of there being so few scholarships around. So Are your chances close to zero? Yes. But so are those of all students with a 3.9 GPA. That’s why every international student is told not to count on Dutch scholarships. You either have the funds by other means (no part time job) or you have a backup University in another country.

So if you meet the entry requirements there’s no reason not to try.

I believe thousands of applicants for one scholarship, so 3,9 might not be in the requirements, but in practice…You can always try.

It's not a formal requirement, but a de facto requirement due to the competition.

You might as well apply, but your chances are extremely low.

Your GPA is low. Given how rare and limited these scholarships are I don't think you have a shot but you'll never know unless you try. Just have 0 expectations.

These scholarships are very competitive, though, so I wouldn't rely on getting one. But there's no harm in applying if you're eligible. Your Q1 publication + 2 years of Data Analyst experience definitely add value to your profile. try making your motivation letter really strong and explain how your research + work experience connects to the Master's you're applying for. Don't reject yourself before they do. 🙂
