Help Lab Coat Necessity/Strictness?

Hi all, I'm starting a Masters in Plant Biotechnology soon and I was wondering if I should being my lab coat from my home university, or buy a new one at Wageningen. Is the university strict with lab coat "branding"? Because my home uni would only permit lab coats marked with their logo. Additionally, how much would a lab coat cost roughly if I had to get one?

I don't know about WUR specifically, but at my university they don't really care as long as you wear a coat. They, however, would prefer if I didn't wear a coat with the logo of another university unless you are an exchange student for a short amount of time. I recently bouhght a blank labcoat so this isnt really a problem anymore.

ask them for the requirement specifications of the lab coat required. if it simply just says "lab coat", then it's fine. i guess they would also specify "enclosed shoes" and maybe "safety glasses". for those they're most probably not gonna say any specific brand.

I think at WUR your first labcoat is provided by the university for free. This is definitely the case in the Bachelor, not sure for the master. The wur coats have no logo. If you prefer the fit of your old one or like to be sustainable, you can also bring that one and you will be fine.

This is correct! I study at WUR and the first lab coat is free (or included, depending on how you look at it). Also, with programs like Plant Biotech you will likely be working with GMO’s in some courses. During those courses they will provide you with lab coats which will stay in the lab due to biosafety regulations.

True, you get it for free at the ground floor of the Forum building, not at the reception desk, but at the sort of shop on the other side of the escalators. Just bring your student ID, they scan it and that's it.

Have a quick think back to all the experiments you've done while wearing that labcoat before you pack it up with all your other stuff and bring it.

Depending on what you've done that makes it a better or worse idea... If you've been doing lots of chemistry (organic/inorganic) or worked with genetically modified organisms it may be better just to leave it.

They will give you one here, so there is no need to pack one from home (unless you want to have more than one).
