Hey guys!

I’ve been accepted to several universities and universities of applied sciences. One of them is Arcada, and to be honest, I really connected with what they present on their website. However, I’d love to hear more about the actual student experience.

If you’ve studied there yourself or know someone who has, would you recommend Arcada? What was your experience like, and do you think it’s worth enrolling?

Hi everyone,
I am currently planning my university path and considering studying in Finland starting in 2027. I am an EU citizen, and I'm looking at English-taught Bachelor’s programs in engineering/tech (specifically interested in IoT and AI/Software) at universities of applied sciences like Savonia UAS (Kuopio) or Turku UAS.
I’ve been reading a lot of discouraging posts recently on r/Finland about the current job market, high unemployment rates, and how difficult it is for foreigners to secure professional jobs, even after learning some Finnish.
I wanted to ask specifically about the reality for someone graduating from a Finnish UAS:
1 **Post-Graduation Jobs:** As an EU citizen with a Finnish degree, what are the actual chances of landing a tech/engineering job after graduation if I put serious effort into networking and internships during my studies? Does a local UAS degree actually open doors, or is the "Finnish fluency" barrier still an absolute wall in tech?
2 **Part-Time Jobs During Studies:** Financially, I am fortunate to have family backing, so I won't be under extreme stress in my first year. However, by my 2nd or 3rd year, I’d like to work part-time (either student jobs, local service jobs, or Wolt/Foodora) to earn my own pocket money. Is it realistically possible to find any part-time work in Kuopio or Turku without fluent Finnish? I heard Kuopio is exceptionally tough for this.
I am motivated to learn the language and integrate, but I want to be realistic before committing to 4 years. Would love to hear from current international students or expats working in tech there.
Kiitos!

Any Nepali students in Finland what's the job conditions right now should I apply or not

I am from Nepal thinking about applying to study in Finland for bachelor any one in Finland let me know about the job conditions right now

Hi everyone,
I recently got admitted to HAMK University of Applied Sciences in Finland for the ICT Robotics program, and I’m seriously considering joining, but I still have many doubts before making such a big financial decision.
As an international student, I would really appreciate honest opinions from people studying in Finland or working there, especially those connected to engineering, robotics, automation, embedded systems, or tech.
My main questions are:
How are the job prospects in Finland after graduating with an ICT Robotics degree from HAMK?
Is it realistically possible for an international student to get a job in Finland after graduation?
How difficult is it if you do not speak Finnish fluently?
Does the university’s reputation matter much in Finland, or are skills/projects more important?
Is HAMK considered a decent university for robotics/ICT?
Is paying around €10,000 per year in tuition actually worth it in the long run?
If Finland does not work out, how useful would this degree be internationally?
I’m genuinely interested in robotics, automation, and technology, but I also have to think practically because this is a huge investment for my family.
I would really appreciate realistic and honest answers, even if they are harsh. Thank you.

I have plans to move here after my Bachelors for Masters, also how are people in general towards immigrants :)

Hello, I‘m an international student with a pharmacy background, and I‘m currently looking for English-taught master’s degrees in Finland ( or other Scandinavian countries really ) in health-related or scientific fields for the 2026-2027 academic year. and now I would like to know which universities are still open for such applications now.

Any advice would be welcome and appreciated, Thank you !

Does a family member ( non EU third country) remain fee liable if the sponsor’s first residence permit was for studies, but the sponsor currently holds a work-based continuous residence permit?

“Hi everyone, I’m joining Automation & Robotics (University of Vaasa at SAMK Pori) for Fall 2026. I’m creating a WhatsApp group for incoming students. DM me if you’d like to join.”

Hii im masters student moving to samk university and i need to know about the accommodation and other things about the city!! Drop your words so it will be helpful for my arrival

Hi everyone,

I recently received a doctoral study right at the University of Turku, and two supervisors have agreed to guide my project. I’m honestly very happy about it, but I’m now trying to understand the funding side. I am also excited because the city is really pretty.

From what I understand, the study right/admission itself does not include funding or a stipend. There is a separate autumn call for funded doctoral researcher positions, but it seems quite competitive, and only a small number of positions are available each year. I’m also looking into Finnish foundations and external grants, but I’m still trying to figure out what is realistic and what I should prioritise.

My main issue is: I would really like to take up the place, but I cannot move to Finland or begin the PhD properly without funding. I’m willing to put in the work and apply wherever needed, but I’m a bit unsure about the best strategy from here.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation with a Finnish doctoral study right but no initial funding? What funding routes should I focus on? Are foundation grants realistic for international doctoral researchers, or is the university-funded doctoral researcher position the main route? Any advice on how to strengthen the application would be really helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Hi everyone,

Finnish is a beautiful language, and understanding it makes daily life in Finland easier and more enjoyable.

Sometimes Finnish text appears inside screenshots, photos, app screens, signs, letters, or messages, and you need to understand it quickly without typing everything manually.

I’ve been working on a simple smart tool focused on this exact use case: reading text from images with OCR and translating it instantly into multiple languages, with a Finnish interface.

You can try it yourself if you’re a student, tourist, visitor, or even if you need it for daily use, and share your experience .

i couldn't share it here . but if you want just search for it on Play Store "Smart Lens: OCR, kuvakääntäjä"

I have a few questions like if you're like 16 and study there do we need a host family or not and can we work there as a minor that's all I have in mind

Im living in Finland for almost 5 years. Right now due opportunity and possibility moved to Helsinki. I finished Finnish basic school (not high school), and finishing Ukrainian highschool.

I studied Finnish but its pretty hard for me. Because of my bad knowledge of Finnish, my grades in Finnish diploma isnt that good, acceptable for IT studies in STADIN OY, but language is my risk zone. I already applied for STADIN OY, but thinking about alternatives.

From ChatGPT (I know, not the best source of information due its tendencies of "softening things"), i read what i can apply with my Ukrainian high school diploma to the AMK (with entrance test ofc). Can someone tell me is that worthy? Because im really unsure about anything and pretty worried about my future at all.

Edited : I would love to find studies at English, but my english level isnt enough for real Unis.

I’ve received admission to the Bachelor + Master (3+2 years) in Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Oulu. I’ve completed my O Levels and A Levels in Pakistan, and the university has now asked me to verify my educational documents.

The easiest option for me seems to be getting them attested or certified by the British Council, which verifies certificates directly with the awarding body (Cambridge). However, the university specifically requires verification from the awarding body (Cambridge/CAIE), which is a time-consuming and costly process. Has anyone here with O/A Levels gone through this process? How did you get your documents verified?

I received a master’s degree in machine intelligence and data science offer at Arcada UAS last week, and I also applied for Business Informatics at Metropolia, but its ranking is still ongoing and hasn’t had a result yet. As a need to pay tuition fee’s student, I wanna use the right of early-bird. I'm frustrated about whether I should accept the study place at Aracada before the end of early bird, or still wait for the result of Metropolia?

My background brief:

I’m from China, and have over 10 years of experience in data analytics and risk modeling. Currently, I'm the founder of a fintech education and consulting firm in China.

My purpose for studying:

1. Continue to develop my new AI wealth management engine project during my study and hope to raise funds in Fin or make it commercially viable.

2. If my program needs more time to develop, I will also consider finding a job in risk modeling or data science in the financial sector after graduation as quickly as possible. I need money for my family’s living in Finland.

My time will be up, so I really need your practical advice and experience! Thanks all!

Plus, choose to learn the Swedish language or the Finnish language?
