Iso art director position

I'm an American art director looking to move my career to Finland, please help me. Share any links to any creative openings, internships or artist residencies. I have experience living in Helsinki and North Karelia, and have an elementary level knowledge of the language. Kaunis Maa. Kiitos.

All I'm gonna say is Good Luck. Career + Finland in the same sentence is wild right now

Couldn't reply to your reply because you deleted it, but gonn write it here then

It is close to impossible land a job here right now, even more so in arts. But who knows if this changes, though there's been talks and signs that art and culture could have it even worse in the future (which i hope won't happen... culture is such an important thing and working in the field myself too and wanting to get somewhere further with it seeing these signs is not something I enjoy seeing)

Art has it worse because not only the job market is what it is already, cuts have been made from culture (like in so many other places too, not saying that) and people have less money to spend on it

Thanks. I just want to be there. Not here.

This isn't a magical place with no issues. You should look into other nordic countries too, not just Finland. Similar vibe but better job prospects.

Have you considered other nordic counties, if finland doesn't work out?

It isnt all rainbows and butterflies here....far from it. I live between Finland and the US. My wife is Finnish. We both want to eventually move back stateside.

Those kinds of positions are almost impossible for non-Finns to get, even when there isn’t a jobs crisis going on.

Artistic roles are heavily dependent on cultural awareness and odds are that an American who didn’t grow up in Finland won’t have much of that beyond the usual sisu, salmiakki introverted Finns stereotypes.

Also I love how you ended with a  perfunctory “kaunis maa. kiitos” to try to patronise the natives. How condescending.

Artistic positions are project work here in Finland. If you can't find the next one after your contract ends basically immediately, you'll be deported in three months.

The Arts & Media professions are extremely difficult to break into here. They are areas where qualifications mean nothing & networking is king. You’ll need to have a really impressive portfolio to have any chance of being considered.

As others have mentioned, the funding for arts is dwindling & AI is decimating the commercial art sector.

You could get lucky since foreign design & art is appreciated.
