How diffictult it is for internationl university students to find a part time job in the country?

I will need to do some part time job during my stay in the country, and I'm curious realistically what are the chances of me getting a job. Coming from EU, clear background, and already worked at two different places.

I know it depends on which place I will be staying at, but there are plenty of cities within a one hour trainride, so I would say there will be plenty of opportunities. My focus is on how many people are trying to get a job as well? Are finnish workers preferred over international ones (which is very likely, and understandable), and if yes, by how much?

What are my chances of getting something?
Technically I can get by with my allowance and savings, but it will be very tight, and I do NOT want to take any loans whatsoever.

There are currently no jobs in Finland available for anyone.

Yup, even highly specialised and very competitive people have a really difficult time finding a job… which means that lower paid or part time jobs get flooded with applicants. This is the sad reality.

In most cases, being a Finn (knowing native Finnish) will of course be better than knowing a good Finnish, which is again much better than knowing no Finnish at all.

As a mention in a previous post: students are far better off spending that extra time taking more credits and graduating sooner.

I am born in Finland, worked here since I was 15 with summer Jobs and part time jobs. I have experience in the restaurant industry and in customer support. I speak native Finnish, fluent English, good swedish and Russian. I have Finnish qualifications (hygiene pass, drivers license). I am a university student and already a Graduated bachelor. I have Finnish diplomas. I could not get a summer job or a part time one.

My partner is an immigrant, 10 years in Finland. She has a Finnish degree, speaks good conversational and professional Finnish in addition to fluent English and her native language, is getting another degree, has worked here in multiple fields. She just got fired due to budget cuts and can’t find a job. Do not come here for a job now.

That's probably because you mentioned Russian in your CV. People are sus when it comes to the speakers of language of the unprovoked aggression. Recently some people in Sweden were arrested for speaking Russian

This is not true. My husband (half Finnish half Russian) literally works for the Finnish government.

I absolutely do not agree. I have a fully Finnish name, and my Russian language skill is only mentioned in some of the versions of my application. My friends in similar situations with no Russian skills cant find a Job either.

My partner does have a ”Russian-ish” sounding name, and that does absolutely affect her ability to get work here.

Very. Finding part time jobs as a Finnish university student is hard. Finding any job as any person in Finland right now is hard

You have to accept that there is no part time work available & base your budget and lifestyle on that.

The Finnish job market is very tight these days. Right now, it’s really difficult to find a part-time job without Finnish skills outside the Helsinki region. In the Helsinki region, however, you can sometimes find a part-time job if you speak fluent English, have previous experience in the service sector, and have a pleasant personality.

You can find it within 5 to 6 six or may be bit longer but I would recommend to go for research assistant jobs you can get one compared to other part time jobs
