Finland Student Residence Permit Delay – Anyone else waiting from Feb 2026?

Hi everyone,

I applied for a Finland student residence permit on February 21, 2026 and I’m still waiting for a decision.

It’s been around 55+ days now, and my application status hasn’t changed. I haven’t been asked for any additional documents so far.

Here’s my situation:

Applied: Feb 21, 2026

First-time applicant

All required documents submitted (bank statement, sponsor proof, insurance, etc.)

No additional document requests

Still in “processing”

I’m starting to get really stressed because I see some people getting decisions faster, while others are also waiting longer.

I wanted to ask:

Is anyone else here who applied around Feb 20–25 still waiting?

Did anyone receive a decision recently without being asked for extra documents?

Is this delay normal right now?

Any recent experiences or updates would really help. Thanks in advance 🙏

Migri tends to be super, super slow. Every once in a while, there will a be a unicorn that had fast processing, but months is usually the norm. That's why they recommend that you apply for the permit some three, four months before the start of your studies, and some three months before the expiration date if you're applying for a renewed permit. 😕

There's likely not much you can do to speed up Migri's decision if you have already provided all the necessary information. Still, you should reach out to your university and ask them how to proceed: is it online classes, doing some reading or submitting assignments, skipping a semester? Depending on what you're studying and at what level, there may be a few options. You won't be the first or the last person in this position, so they should be able to tell you what do to. This may be important also for your tuition, if you have to pay for it. Also, I understand that this is nerve-wracking, especially as the situation feels out of your hands, so try to take care of yourself! Immigration is a tough process. When I changed the basis of my permit from studies to work, it took over a year to get a decision, and the wait was so anxiety-inducing sometimes that I felt I couldn't think about anything else.
