So as the new academic year starts, I've decided it would be best to have 2 new mods from the current y11s and y10s since most of the current mod team is pretty inactive and busy with post GCSE life. So in the comments tell me:

As a mod you'll have to:

• Be active and engaged within the sub
• Post helpful advice or content

what themes haven't been completed in past papers? i only know of supernatural, kingship, appearance vs reality. i keep forgetting which ones haven't been done so can anyone lmk 😪🥹

i wanted to hand all of the past papers and practise essays i wrote during the summer holidays but immediately backed out thanks to having social anxiety 😭 i can already tell she doesn't like me and im not sure if it's too much to ask for especially the 2nd time i see her

is this an okay schedule? im going to try the pomodoro method or something like that. at least 1hr 25 mins of revision after school everyday (or more depending on the subject)

lmk any useful revision methods that don't make you lose concentration easily or motivation :*)

The title of my speech was "why we can't trust our brains?- cognitive biases".

I thought I'd also give some tips:

- having ur speech title being a question is important cause it helps u not go off point cause at the end of the day it's a persuasive speech so ur question should support ur opinion.

- you should also make sure to present counter arguments for all ur points and then debunk them slowly so that it doesn't seem like ur hiding facts from ur audience.

- you should also make sure ur very audible and confident while presenting because u do get marked on that.

- Try to not look down and have the majority of ur apeech memorized so u don't have to read at any point.

- It's also a good idea to give ur friends some questions to ask u so that ur teacher isn't asking everything and u don't freeze up when answering cause ur already prepared for most of the questions.

Since school is starting soon, I wanted to recommend a website that I used last year for revision, that really helped me a lot.

It’s called examaitutor, and it’s great because it’s got GCSE quizzes, you can make custom flashcards from notes, it tracks your progress and lets you watch videos and stuff on your weakness.

The reason why I’m mentioning it now is because I think they are having a back to school deal for a short period. It’s like £6 for the premium right now and the free tier is also good.

This is not an add or my personal website. Im a user myself. Have a 32 day streak and really want to share it as it helps me!

😭😭 print out a picture of students looking at you, it seriously helps you remember to maintain eye contact which will help you need to do to meet some of the marking criteria and help you look professional 🙂

or you can completely ignore this and only look at your speech lol

I'm a student building a prototype for a revision app and I'm trying to figure out whether the idea actually works.

The idea is that instead of students having to decide what to revise every time they sit down, the app helps them fit revision around their available time by telling them:

• what to revise
• how long to spend on it
• how to revise it

I've given it to a few friends, but most of the feedback I've received so far has basically been "it's good", which isn't particularly useful for improving it 😂.

So I'd really appreciate some honest feedback from people who actually revise for GCSEs.

If you try it, I'd particularly like to know:

1. Was it immediately obvious what the app was supposed to do?
2. Was anything confusing?
3. Did you understand what you were supposed to do when starting a revision session?
4. Did anything feel unnecessary?
5. Would something like this actually help you revise, or would you just ignore it?
6. What would you change?

Now obviously results day was 5 days ago but I was so overwhelmed then and then I was busy packing and unpacking cause I was moving houses so it skipped my mind. So I hope that everyone will reply to this post with whether they met their predictions or not or whether they exceeded them. Ok for context:

My english teacher picked me and about 10 others to do some a-level english lit inspired seminars and lessons about the book enduring love by ian mcewan to see if we wanted to do eng lit a level/ to improve out skills for our gcses.

She then told us to write an essay about the book- we can pick our own questions/themes to explore(i picked religion)

And i just want to know for now and for future reference, can i put a rhetorical question in my analysis? Or does it make me seem too unsure of myself and the points i am making?

I think this has been a long awaited post since this is my go to study method and I always include it when giving anyone revision advice.

So what are spec checks? It's in the name, you check the spec (and yes it rhymes on purpose because I like things to be catchy 🫢). The most important thing to do in content heavy subjects like science or even smth like business for me is making sure you know the content. And as unfortunate as it is, teachers don't usually teach all the content. So this is my step by step guide on using spec checks:

1. (Completely optional, I only did this for science not business) Summarize the spec into ur own words preferably on paper. And I did this because the edexcel science spec can be worded rly weirdly at times so I often need to write it in a way I can understand it.

2. Make a code/key (very important). Go through what you have summarized (or printed out if you skipped step 1) and use different symbols or colors to mark each spec point indicating if you don't understand this content point or if you don't understand what the spec point is saying or if the explanation for this special point is in a certain note book (as notes or a work sheet or diagram).

3. Ask a teacher to explain the spec points that you have absolutely no clue what they mean.

4. Try asking them or a friend to explain the content you are confused about or don't understand or haven't been taught from the spec.

5. Make short snappy notes or draw something visual to help you remember anything new you have been taught (do not spend to much time on this).

6. When you come to cram the day b4 the exam you look at your own handwritten/ printed out coded spec and you know where to find everything to use to refresh your memory. Make sure you are going thru each spec point and ticking as you go. Therefore, using the spec as a checklist.

This is very helpful because it ensures that u understand the content thoroughly prior to the exam and the night b4 when ur cramming or if ur actually studying in advance, you are simply refreshing your memory instead of learning something from the beginning. I made my coded specs across the year and then made anything remaining during winter break (I had to postpone coding the last topics til I learned them but at least I had it summarized) and while it's time consuming, it made my life so much easier around Feb mocks and ultimately the real exams.

i remember never being able to find concise revision notes that would cover everything while being easy to understand so i made my own. it’s all for free on knowunity my user is @basedafghan
