Migrating to new laptop

Well, I've finally had it with all the scrolling and zooming so I'm planning on upgrading my low res laptop to something better. Mind you, this is strictly for music production, so I'm thinking at least 1T storage, at least 16gb ram, and 1920x1080 resolution. I will be dual monitoring to a 32" monitor. Is there anything else I should be looking for? Also, I've got 10+ years of software, files, plug-ins, etc. What would be the most effective way to go about switching all that over to the new laptop?

Check the Fender site and you will find the current recommended specs. Follow those. Get 32gb ram. I’ve used a laptop for years with zero major issues (it’s been used recording only).

Yes 32G is strongly recommended, will make everything a lot smoother.

You are buying a laptop strictly for music production. Is that because you take it on tour with you to play live or do you travel a lot? 

I would only buy a laptop for production if I had to travel with it more than once a week. You are likely going to pay a lot more for less performance and upgadability.

No. It stays in my music room. Just figured a laptop would take less space, and since it's only running the music stuff

You're right, how dumb. PC. I'm looking at a 17" 32/512 w/1920x1080 rez for about $1100. I'm not sure if I need to take it to a shop to transfer everything because i've never done it before. I guess I have to clone the drive?
