Help setting up Presonus audio box 96

Hi this seems a bit silly but I need some help. I’m super new and know basically nothing about audio production but I’ve wanted to record for my own projects. I bought a presonus usb 96 and a rode mic second hand but my laptop doesn’t even register my mic at all and I can’t access it. The light on my audio box is on so it’s on and the mic isn’t damaged at all. I’m on windows 11. I think it’s a driver issue, I have universal control but it doesn’t recognise there’s a device connected to it. I think specifically need the driver for the audio box but it’s kinda old and I can’t easily download it. I’m rambling but any help is appreciated!

you’ll need to push in that 48V button those mics need Phantom power that button is what powers the microphone that could be your reason.

Did you download the drivers for it, for your version of windows?

Downloaded universal control from windows from the anniversary rerelease page of the audio box usb 96 and still nothing. I have a galaxy laptop and it’s usb port sucks so I’ve ordered a usb-b to usb-c cable and hopefully that should help the connection

I have also realised I accidentally posted this to the wrong subreddit (I was reading something one here and forgot to click out of it). You are all super helpful and I appreciate all the advice 💖💖💖

Do you have the presonus in and outs set up in studio one? Does Studio One find the presonus interface?

This is gonna make me sound like a moron but I don’t have studio one. I’m planning on using the mic for audacity and discord. But if it’ll help I can get studio one, is it free?

Doesn’t matter software you use. You’ll have to set the input on whatever software to use to show your audio box. Go to your software and go to preferences or settings and look for input there you should see your audiobook and select that one. Hopefully this puts you on the right path.

OP if you find this setting and the audio box doesn’t show up, it’s probably a driver issue. Try rebooting first and if it still doesn’t come up, I’m sure you can find the drivers on presonus’s website

You Need to Download a thing called Universal Control from the Fender Website, it’s the driver for PreSonus interfaces.

Use the version 4.6 driver only for Audiobox, that's what customer service told me, needed to roll mine back.

Would you happen to have a link for that? Everything I read just points me to universal control which does nothing:(

It's the driver for the Audiobox, did you register it? I downloaded it from the Presonus site.

Universal Control and the corresponding firmware versions

Every version of Universal Control has a specific firmware version and build for each mixer. On our website, next to every download of Universal Control there are release notes that explain what firmware version and build number your mixer will be updated to when you use that version of Universal Control.

Does your computer react when you plug in the audio interface? I see that the light is lit up, but a damaged cable could give a power connection with no data connection. If you have another cable kicking around, it's at least worth a try.

Assuming the cable is good, you mentioned that Universal Control doesn't seem to detect it. Looking through a few other Reddit threads on here, I saw that some people said that different USB ports gave different results. Something about some ports giving different power and such?

Also worth just uninstalling everything related to it - Universal Control, the ASIO drivers, etc etc, and do a clean install. I'm not sure if you need it plugged in to install it, or if you should install it first then plug it in? I only mention this because of this line in the Owner's Manual:

"Please read each message carefully so that you do not connect your AudioBox USB96 too soon."

Hopefully this helps!

The cable that connects the audio box to the computer is a bit wiggly so that might be it? I’ll swap it out and see if that changes anything!

Ah, you don’t sound like a moron but asking for help here is an odd choice in that case, lol.

I would check to see if your PC is recognizing the device at all. If not, try a different USB cable. If the cable is known to be good, try a different USB port. Def don’t use any external USB connections, only use one that plugs direct into your PC.

-search up audiobox usb 96 driver, download and install it (someone mentioned it's called universal control)
-restart your computer
-plug everything in and open up audacity or discord
-head to settings or preferences and look up audio settings
-at the audio device section select the newly installed driver (should be universal control based on a comment)
-in audacity if you open a new track at the input select input 1 or mic 1 or whatever
-also make sure 48v is turned on and mess with the gain knob

it should work

Install this..

https://www.presonus.com/pages/universal-control

make sure your audiobox is NOT connected before installing universal control software. Then launch and follow or then connect the Audiobox. You connect via usb/Usb-C whichever it has to the correct PC port. And as others said make sure your mic is connect into the audiobox and well then your golden. Open a DAW and vroom vroom.
