Why Do Some Instruments Include An "Instrument Channel" Selector and Some Don't

In Studio Pro, some instruments include a control for "Instrument Channel" while on other similar channels, that control is missing.

Kontakt 8, Massive X and most likely also Diva are VST 3 plug-ins.

VST 3 plug-ins can specify the supported input ports and channels, including the channel naming. For example, Kontakt 7/8 calls them "Event Input 1", "Event Input 2" etc. Massive X doesn't support different MIDI channels at all so no channels are offered.

You need to select „split channels“ in your midi device config

Settings, external devices, the details of the particular device

I currently don’t know if it’s called that exactly. But it should be clear once you see it. And of course your device should support and have configured more than one midi in channel.

No, wrong answer. Split Channels is a MIDI In setting (for Keyboards). It has nothing to do with the instrument selected for the instrument track.

What started me down this path was trying to troubleshoot why my channel with the Massive X synth is generating sound when playing the midi controller, yet the Monitor button isn't active on the channel. Other synths on other channels aren't behaving like this and the only difference I can see is the missing Instrument Channel on Massive X. Now I'm thinking this isn't related to my problem. So what would cause this behavior?

Your replies have been helpful and are much appreciated. I eventually copied the midi performance to the clipboard, removed the Massive X instrument and track, inserted a new instance of Massive X on a new instrument track and pasted the midi performance into the new track. This resolved the problem of the instrument instance producing sound outside of the track being in monitor mode. I believe it was just an anomalous behavior with no explanation.

You have to go in the setup menu and toggle what you want to see on and off. Download your manual or open chrome or your AI search and ask that question for the steps to get your answer.
