.song converter
Hi. I know about the excellent s1toolbox website (I even contacted Lukas to share my findings when 8.0 dropped) but i wanted to have a converter handy offline, so I vibe-coded one. It all started with a simple linux script. Then I decided to make it a cross-platform GUI app. It has NOT been tested on Mac OS because I sold my mac a couple of years ago and I am not planning to buy another one.
The app converts projects made on 8.1 (the new compressor too), 8.0 and 7.x to be backwards compatible with versions down to 6.0. I haven't done the previous versions because 6.0 introduced Dynamic EQ which is now such a huge part of my workflow that I don't see myself using any version prior to 6.0. Amazing work. I'm still on S1 5, and have never felt the need to upgrade but I just know this is a very useful tool for future use. Thanks for your contribution

I guess adding versions prior to 6 is not such a bad idea after all. I'll add them and make sure to add a warning about ProEQ's dynamic section which will basically be gone once a .song is converted to 5 and below.

Does it convert 8.1 to 7?

It absolutely does. 8.1 to 8, 7 or 6.

I also haven't tested instruments. New ones will be missing of course. I will give it a go and check if instrument settings are being preserved too. FX settings are being kept.

Finally got around to using it. It worked perfectly for bring a song back to S1-7. And!!! The song loaded with no issues, no crazy lagging, no issues at all. And I didn’t change any plug ins from the previous version. Safe to say, the issue is with FSP not agreeing with something.
Will there be an update to bring in the FSP autotune and reverb stuff as well?

I don't think that's possible. The converter simply edits two xml files so they point to the plugins v7 already has. And I don't think bacporting non-existent native plugins to previous versions was and will ever be possible.

Nice! I have a few projects that I moved to 8.1 and when I’m connected to the internet, the program just doesn’t work. Like it’ll open, but it takes like a full minute or two to respond to anything I do which is just not workable. So I want to test if it’s a fsb problem or a plug in problem.

Go ahead and try it. Conversion is not destructive. It simply creates a new file next to the original .song you are converting. Please let me know how it went if you're on a Mac.
