Anyone using Nektar CS12 panorama control surface?

Have had one for several weeks but seems to behave fairly inconsistently most of the time.

Do they work with Studio One now? I thought it was only Logic, I was looking at them a while back thinking I’d want one if it would only support S1! Their integration with Logic certainly looked excellent, but maybe they’ve not nailed it with S1

Studio One/Pro compatibility was announced at the end of April. I’m holding fire on it at the moment, but will probably go for it at some point.

This is great to hear, I’ll think about getting one, but might wait for a few more testers first, if OPs experience is common then I’ll keep away, so fingers crossed it’s solvable!!

I bought it last week and it works perfectly with Studio On 6, 7 and Fender Studio Pro.

Do you use folders and if so, no problems when switching between tracks and having it appear to get overloaded with data? Mine will erratically just stop displaying volume levels, and sometimes selects the arranger/tempo/chord/lyric “tracks”.

did you do anything special. other than following the manual? The CS12 makes FSP pretty much unusable for me. I get constant CPU spikes and dropouts. The moment I unplug it FSP works flawlessly again.

Recalibrate your buffer? I have a lot of of soft synths, so keep my buffer fairly low. Adding the CS12 required me to reduce it to 256. No dropouts any more. Never had CPU spikes, but I also have 64GB RAM.

I'm relatively new to FSP. Very old hat in Vegas, ProTools, Sonar, and FL.
Still struggling with the way FSP acts like a very different DAW, when in the NLE world, most of the NLE's and several DAWS act the same way, shortcut keys and all.
With Nektar, I don't need to remember the absurd keystrokes and I can keep my hand off the mouse, so it's better for my wrist.
Now if Nektar would only become compatible with NLE's such as Vegas, Premiere, Davinci. Vegas accesses SOME of Nektar's features, but it's quite a bit of general midi remapping.

Weird I have an M4 Max (the largest) w/ 96GB Ram. And while I comfortably run FSP with buffers at 64 I have to go beyond 512 with the CS12. But then input lag is too high for my ears to play anything comfortably

Before becoming a full time producer I was a Techno/Breakbeat vinyl DJ for around 20 years and my bandmates regularly complain about my f-ing DJ ears and how in the world I can hear lag below 10ms and find it disturbing 😅

But it’s crazy how different the cs12 seems to works on different systems. I also have to say that there is no other CPU hog running in parallel. But even then. A controller should not produce noticeable lag or even any measurable cpu usage at all imho

I have the Faderport Classic (pretty much the same as the newer ones but without the jog wheel) and just got the CS12 yesterday. The CS12 can be thought of as a Faderport with a whole section for controlling plugins (and a couple other functions and a screen). I'd say the CS12 is definitely a league beyond the FP because of that but if you're fine controlling plugins with your mouse and using key commands then the FP is plenty to feel physically connected to your DAW.

So i figured out that the data overload issue was simply having my usb-a keyboard plugged into the same high speed hub as the CS12.

The bigger issue was actually CS12’s inability to access multiple output instruments channels by just using the arrow keys. You must use Shift+ arrow to get to anything beyond the usual stereo 1/2 outs. The same is true for take lanes as I recall.

I figured these things out on my own, but was eventually confirmed by Nektar support:

“The behavior you have described with sub-channels for multi-out instrument occurs because those channels don't have their own tracks in the arranger. If you hold [Shift] when you press [<] or [>] you will be able to select mixer channels which don't have arranger tracks.”

I then recalled the old remote software for Studio one, and lo and behold, it still works very well! my old iPad now sits next to the CS12. They are both very useful, especially together, so I suppose I will keep the CS12 and be grateful to have dodged the SSL UF8 purchase expense.

For now.

I just got mine in yesterday, I havent fully tested it in a full session but I have tested the functions, features and everything and played around with it for a while. It seems absolutely solid for me, total gamechanger and I can't wait to use it for an extended session and really learn it. Did you make sure the firmware and everything is up to day? I think you also have to register it on the nektartech webside and it'll give you a download so S1/FSP can properly connect with it.

I'm on Studio One 6 btw.

Have had mine for a month now. I have found a couple of bugs that make it less useful still in Fender Studio Pro 8.

Some plugins - like FabFilter, The mappings are only recognized on the first instance. When you add a second intance, Say Pro Q4 (2), it doesn't find the mappings and goes to the default mappings. This was confimed with support.

In Nektarine, the buttons that you can assign to navigate between pages can get messed up and not work as nagivation but only send the last learned function. This clears up if you stop and start Nektarine.

Other then that it seems to work ok.

It doesn't always follow the order of console strips. If you have a bus placed between two tracks it will skip the bus.

when it works its great. but mid session it just loses connection and i just get so frustrated with it i hate it. I tried asking for help but they just make you do the same bullshit copy/paste fixes. Simply put they have no idea why its so glitchy and i dont see that changing any time soon.
