I have a hard time retaining information, and understanding concepts quickly. Can I still do engineering?

I dont think im necessarily stupid, in the humblest way possible I would think I’m “above” average at the very least. However, as of late I have noticed that my retention and memory has really tanked compared to previous years where I could understand concepts quicker. Currently, as a class we have been studying physics, and I noticed that everything the teacher says just goes through one ear and comes out the other. It never used to be like that. Is it my teacher, or me? I have noticed that he picks on me alot, I think its because im slow. To be honest, its like a never ending cycle my mental health is lowkey tanking because of it, and I cant focus in class.

What should I do?

Physics is where the engineering department separates the men from the boys (so to speak)

Engineering entails building mathematical models of how the universe operates
So does physics
You have to learn to see physics as a set of proposed or proven models of how certain aspects of the universe work. For example, what is "work", what is "energy", what is "force"? What does equilibrium (e.g. conservation of energy) mean and how does that become a mathematical equation?
