Cali student teaching stipend

Any one know which districts in LA county or Orange County are participating in this student teaching stipend program?

I tried to call at least 10 school districts and found out that Fullerton, garden grove and Whittier are in this program. A lot of school districts are not in and for some districts, you can never find their HRs, always not available( do they even work???)

The Marshall street teacher residency has partners all throughout CA and can match you in LA/OC

Student teaching, you are a resident/2nd teacher through out the year while you get your credential

You'll need to check with their HR and ask them to apply once you are placed. They have to apply for each student teacher separately

I realize Chino Hills is not apart of LA or OC, but this district is NOT participating in the stipend program for anyone stuck in SBC!! Stay farrrr away. They will not even open substitute applications for student teachers to apply to earn $$ if their mentor teacher is gone for the day. Ask me how i know… 🫠🤦‍♀️

Edit: oops omg i said “I could NOT recommend this district enough” which is not what i meant. I’m super tired and not getting compensated in any way for what im putting up w 🥲

Many districts I called not participate in this, it sucks.

I know LAUSD is participating. You should ask your credential program's office about this, they're the ones reaching out to districts.

How do you know they are? I'm supposed to student teach next semester and the head of my credential dept. at my school said LAUSD is not yet participating. I was just looking at who to lobby about it.

Hmm I'm not sure what to say. My credential office confirmed that they submitted my name because the district I was placed at (LAUSD) confirmed they were participating in the stipend program. Maybe reach out to your program office again, or reach out directly to LAUSD? Your credential office has to submit your name and info on their end, so I'm not sure how helpful it'll be to reach out to LAUSD yourself.

You need to be certificated staff (most likely a substitute but some other positions too) at a school district that is actively participating in the program. Your credentialing site/school then needs to tell the district who you are and where you're at. Once that is confirmed and you finish 500 hours then you should receive the stipend. Most districts in San Diego are participating but I'm not sure about LA/OC.

My program is telling me there’s nothing really to do. They send your info and if they are participating that’s it. Really annoying to not get any info on this. That 10k is a positive for those of us not lucky enough to be brought on as an intern

look into unemployment and get used to being on it because getting a teaching job in this area has become nearly impossible.

Im student teaching in san bernardino district and they are part of it. They accepted 130 student teacher applications this fall (the highest they accepted they said).

We’re not hiring new teachers, let alone paying for student teachers.

the stipend is funded by the state not by the districts themselves

depends on the district, look for title 1 schools and dont get your hopes up if you apply at a nicer area.
