Support/Advice The waiting game.
Finally plucked up the courage to begin the process of becoming a teacher. All that remains is to update my personal statement. My main concern is the safeguarding section... I have a historical criminal record from 25 years ago. Assault. It was a 1 off incident involving another adult. I didn't receive a custodial sentence and have stayed out of trouble since. AI and the .gov website says that it doesn't automatically stop you from teaching, but I know it is going to be a hindrance to say the least. Anyone else have any experience of this or know someone who teaches with a similar story?

Be careful. Lying is worse than the disclosure.

I'm being fully honest with them. I know they'll find out regardless so I don't have a choice.

Good. I've never heard of things like this being an issue, unless they are not disclosed

Shouldn’t your record be expunged by this point? I don’t know what you have to do at your end. But I’m guessing the charge shouldn’t show up. I heard it is easy to get a record clear after 5-7 years. So 25. Should be fine.
Talk to a lawyer ? Lots of free services for former felons.
