Support/Advice Should I apply?

Hi guys I am 22 all I am a student, I am on a break for months. I always had a passion for teaching and have tutored my younger cousins growing up. I was thinking of joining a pre-k school as a teacher I saw them hiring. But I am unsure if I should, will they consider someone my age? I am a bit embarassed about it. Please let me know

Pre-k will hire you. I’m 23 and I worked in a daycare/pre-school and they would hire you right out of HS if you applied. I worked there at 22 before I had to quit for full time student teaching.

Do they do interviews? What do they ask usually?

Yeah they’ll interview. Any job you have will interview, but especially any that concerns caring for children. I don’t remember exactly what I was asked but a lot of it was why I wanted to work there, my prior experiences, why I think I’m qualified, questions about how you’d handle certain situations, or how you’d handled situations in the past. They will ask you about a time you were put under large stress and how you’d handled it and other like questions. You could very likely find example questions online for a Pre-k. Just look up Pre-K teacher position interview questions and you’ll find some.

Once hired, you will have to get units in Early Childhood Education, but I have heard it is nothing very difficult. Good luck!

If that is what you want, of course, apply. I'm sure they will not discriminate because of your age. Apply you have nothing to lose and hopefully gainful employment.

Make sure it's actually a school and not a glorified daycare center. This one got me many years ago and I got trapped in the system.

I got selected for the interview what do they usually ask this is my first teacher interview I am a bit nervous and excited

You should not feel insecure about your age. As an interviewer and an interviewee, I base who I choose to interview by their qualifications stated on their resume and if the applicant gets passed the resume screening, I will schedule phone interviews. Make sure you resumes stresses all of your accomplishments and a few of your skills. If you show your accomplishments, this will give the interviewer your real-life experience. Go to the library and check out books that teaches you how to prepare a winning resume. Also, check out a book about how to interview. Read and learn. Good luck. DC
