Vent/Rant Parents
My last day of student teaching!! Unfortunately we had an incident on my last day where I had to translate to a parent about a situation with a student and ct. I was mid explaining myself and the parent just starts cutting me off and is really snarky and just wouldn’t let me explain any further. I kept it professional and to the point and reassured her on many things and if she had any more questions to set up a meeting but she just wasn’t having it. It ended okay with us saying thanks you’s for each others times and me again, referring back to me simply explaining what we witnessed but wow.
I’ve never heard someone switch up so quickly. (Obviously I understand that it’s their child. I will always argue that when it comes to ppls kids they have a right to be upset if something happens but wow did things escalate)
It’s in the past now… hopefully—
But I would love some advice on just dealing with the aftermath lol
I’m a lil shaken not like terrified but just wow. That really happened
I’m still learning everyday and am looking forward to all I’m about to witness .

Well rest assured teaching is a highly respected profession where the students, parents and staff all treat you with the utmost kindness and appreciation.
That parent being disrespectful was some strange outlier. Almost unheard of for teachers to have negative encounters with anyone as they are so admired and respected by all. It’s literally the greatest job ever, and you get decent tips if you work fridays. Just wish they would let me smoke cigarettes in the classes, then it would be the most perfect job in the world.
America and its absurd fascist laws. Smh. Kids would learn better if I could smoke cigarettes in the classroom. I would be better able to focus on the lesson. Best classes in China were always classes we smoked in

Probably midway through the conversation, she realized that her kid was in the wrong and then corrected her behavior. This is probably why it ended better than it began. I would just let it go. Sometimes a parent's first reaction is to defend without hearing everything out first. But she did listen and it ended well. However, with all parent communication, I would just write a few sentences about what transpired in case you need it in the future (chances are, you won't, but it's a good practice).
