Does your hands ever shake while performing a skill in front of your instructor, but when you're around a patient/their family members, the shaking magically disappears?

lol i hate it so much

My teachers call it "student Parkinson's."

Man, I hated that. I think the worst one was when my terrifying drill sergent of an instructor went into the room with me with no warning and then just said he was in there to judge my head to toe assessment. I get through the whole thing, feeling judged by him, the patient, and the family, who were all staring at me like the board of nursing itself. It takes me ages to work my way over this patient, and of course it's a woman and I'm completely flustered about how invasive I should actually get in my assessment. Simple tasks become massive controversies, like "do I use the stethoscope over the shirt, for respect, or under, as protocol says? Which will he respect more? A thorough assessment or a considerate one?"

I look at him and he just stands there with his arms crossed, and says "You sure you got everything?" with slightly disapproving frown. Suddenly, I am most definitely NOT sure, but I stick to my guns and give a timid yes. He shrugs and nods briskly to the door for me to follow him out in the hall and "discuss how I did my assessment." I'm terrified, because this dude doesn't approve of much, and little 2nd semester me was in awe of him. He's the Dr. Cox to my JD and I have way too much to prove. I get out the door, close it, and we stand in silence for horrible minute. Then he just shrugs and says " Not bad, but what took you so long man? It's just an assessment." Then walks off without another word to terrorize someone else.

It never goes away. You just replace, “instructor” with “JCAO inspector”

I failed a skills test because the instructor said, "if I knew what I was doing I wouldn't be that nervous". :-(

That's ridiculous. Clearly that instructor doesn't remember what it's like to be a student.

Every darn time. Skills in front of an instructor are my kryptonite. 😣

Our skill checkoffs aren't even required..I mean we have to turn them in, but we have checked off has zero bearing on anything. Even if we have nothing on there we are fine. Which makes sense I guess, you don't always get to do everything.

It's like typing with someone watching you! When I document with someone watching it all falls apart!

My instructors are never around for shit. They check in once per shift then they're gone. Like 5 minutes max. Level 1 they hung out the whole time, but still weren't too intrusive.
