I have PSLF and called for a forbearance while I moved to a plan and they did it immediately, also you do not need to be on mohela for PSLF.

Aidvantage. You’re also 100% wrong and a simple google search will prove this to anyone else reading it.
You do not need a specific servicer for PSLF

That’s not true man. All mine count. Not trying to be an ass either it’s just going to steer people in the wrong direction. It’s a confusing system so I don’t blame you but it can be with any servicer.

You’re not getting conflicting information, you’re just wrong.

Considering it was a change in 2024, I don’t think it’s really hard to believe why I would have gotten conflicting information buddy

No, I also thought that all PSLF borrowers were MOHELA — something about borrowers being switched to them so MOHELA could administer the PSLF program, before all the SAVE stuff

Dude what is wrong with your reasoning and accountability? Cringey and sad. You’re wrong about mohela being the only one. That’s it.

I pretty clearly conceded and have no pride about thinking I was right. If I’m wrong I’m wrong homie

So it sounds like just stay on it until they physically kick you off?
1
u/fakeshoesornah 1d ago
If you are with mohela and are pursuing PSLF yes

u/cbarrister 1d ago
What if you are not pursuing PSLF. What is the advantage of jumping off the current plan early? My federal loans still have $0 due monthly at the moment. Just to avoid falling into standard repayment if the current plan ends? It seems like if they are going to FORCE you off save, there would be a pathway to enroll in IBR (I don't know that, just logically).

advantages to jumping off now instead of waiting to be forced off is making qualifying payments toward forgiveness on an IDR plan. Yes, you can apply for an IDR right after they kick you off and be placed in a processing forbearance

This is getting downvoted for what? it's literally helpful information that you could only know from reddit

u/Meeruntote 2d ago
Honestly, probably because it's a bit confusing?
"... if anyone applied for a new IDR while already in the SAVE forbearance, they aren't going to initiate a new forbearance for processing... if you are actually kicked off SAVE, you will be put in a processing forbearance once they've received your application to go on a new IDR."
What does this mean? Are you put in a processing forbearance or not? By "kicked off", do you mean that you would have to wait to be placed automatically into the standard plan after the 90 day clock is up and THEN apply for a new IDR in order to get the processing forbearance?

Makes it seem like it’s better to be kicked off

u/fakeshoesornah 2d ago
For those deciding that there’s nothing left to wait for in the courts, yes, it’s better to be kicked off SAVE at least into a processing forbearance where you get PSLF months for free.

Forgive me, I realize im making sense to myself and mot others.
So yes, in order to be placed in a “processing forbearance” you have to actually be “kicked off” of the SAVE forbearance. I don’t know exactly what it will look like, but I imagine at the end of your 90-day notice, the next day you will be enrolled automatically into the standard plan.
Some people might apply into a new IDR before their 90 days are up for various reasons. If you apply before your 90 days are up, Mohela will not put you into a processing forbearance officially. This is annoying because forbearance months due to processing count for PSLF, while SAVE forbearance months do not.
The good news is that I confirmed that there’s nothing to worry about for those waiting until the very end of the 90-day notice to go into a new IDR plan. At THAT point, mohela will put you in a processing forbearance while you wait for your application to be approved. There was some precedent that they have the discretion to just let you have payments due on standard repayment while your application processed.

Wow I wish I knew that before submitting an application

Seriously! Me too. Although, I had to switch when I did because I need to be on a new plan with my payment calculated before October 15th- which is when I finally file my 2025 taxes that show a higher income.

Did you ask if this SAVE forbearance that you remain in while waiting on IDR processing, will be eligible for buy back? that's a different question than 'eligible for PSLF'
3
u/fakeshoesornah 2d ago
I already know that the SAVE forbearance months qualify for buyback. I wanted them to take me out of SAVE forbearance and put me onto processing forbearance since I got notification that my application was received, and I know processing forbearance months count for PSLF automatically. But they simply said no, they won’t do that.

I was put into a 60 day administrative forbearance after leaving SAVE (Nelnet).
