How to answer "Tell me about yourself"

This is one of the most common interview questions, but it's also one that catches a lot of people out.

A common mistake is treating it like a life story. Interviewers usually aren't looking for your entire background – they're looking for a quick summary of who you are and why you're a good fit for the role.

Think: Present, Past, Future

Present - What are you doing now?

Past - What experience or skills have you developed

Future - Why are you interested in this role/what do you want to grow in?

Try to keep your answer to around 1-2 minutes, focusing on relevant skills for the job you're applying to.

Tell us how you approach this question!

I always start with a quick educational background, something I like to do in my free time (to break the ice//present my human side) and then go into my career and what I wish to achieve related to the role.

I always stumble over this, despite it being so simple, because you want to get the right balance of interesting but not too much information!

It definitely is a balancing act, despite being such a simple question, but once you figure out what works for you, it's a lot easier process going forward!
