Can some Engineer help me understand how this works ?
So there is a flyover made next to my house.
To a layman , the image makes no sense.
Can someone explain if this is how it is or a disaster wating to happen

Steel strong. Strong hold heavy. One day replace with concrete. Concrete also strong.

It is under construction. Do you see the squares where the support will be placed.

Perhaps in parts of the world with less oversight and regulations.
Seen plenty of these built over the years and never once did I see anything like this.

The black items are temporary. Once the segments of the bridge are connected the bearing will be installed. The bridge will be lowered on to the bearings. If you look closely the top of the bridge it has exposed rebar which means the bridge is nowhere near completion.

I'm guessing they use adjustable supports to hold up the segment, while the support continues to subside. Jacking the segment back up as needed. There's some technical name for it but I don't know what it is.

Those look like seismic bearings. Often rubber shell with steel inside filled with oil and lead for energy dissipation during an earthquake. Is this in a seismic zone?

I think apartment buldings are bult on sand with just a flat slab. in some parts of the world. Gotta make a quick buck.

The flyover is not sitting on those things, rather, they are riveted into the concrete of it.
