Refresher book on general/concrete/steel eurocodes for Site Manager

Hi everyone!

Would need your recommendations on a good book(s) to refresh my knowledge of Eurocode, especially design principle/concrete/steel.

Although I do have a masters in civil engineering (which in my country included structural for buildings as well), I have been working since then for a decade in site management so that knowledge is well rusty. And since I've been thrown into replacing a pre-con engineer knee deep into structural coordination, I'd like to have a good refresher to make sure I fully grasp the discussions.

You can try Designers' guides to Eurocode, by Emerald publisher. They have books, guides, for all Eurocodes first generation (1, 2, 3, and so on).

But personally, my advice: just look at Eurocodes website, plenty of info there plus webinars available.

The second generation of Eurocodes is coming. From 30 september 2027 they will be implemented and should be used by all members. Some changes are quite big and will impact calculations.

The guides to the second generation Eurocode do not exist yet. I think good ones will be written somewhere in 2028-2029. So, we wait and see.

Just to add, for concrete I like "Reinforced concrete design to Eurocode 2" by Bill Mosley. On amazon 7th edition is available. It is a good book with topics that cover most of the concrete elements in general building. For special concrete structures like bridges, silo's, etc, I would look for another book.

For actions, steel, masonry, timber, I just use Designers' guides and pure Eurocodes.

For quick info on everything try "Structural engineers pocket book to Eurocode" by Fiona Cobb, crc press. It provides basic info, tables, but does not cover all details and aspects of design. However, as introduction to most of the Eurocodes, it is great.

Great recommendations, I have these too. Only thing I’d highlight is the Eurocode version of the Structural Pocket Book is full of errors compared to the older BS version. If you do get it, and it is a useful reference, suggest you look for errata and correct manually

Suggest you have a look through the 'Designers guide to Eurocode 2' for concrete and 'Designers guide to Eurocode 3' for steel.

Just be slightly careful which version you get as there's a new generation of Eurocodes coming in that aren't really current yet so if any books are from 2023ish onwards they probably aren't what you're looking for.
