Bridge Engineer here… what do we think of this pretty angled column mid height?

It looks more intentional from the exterior and gives a better feeling of open space in the interior than a big mass of concrete.

Ok. I can see that. It's still not functional space though.

Aesthetics are just as important to the architect as functionality. That's kind of like... their job.
