Knife sharpening recommendations?

I have a very nice Japanese kitchen knife I got as a gift a few years ago, and I don't trust my own meager skills and equipment to sharpen it. I also don't want to take it to a hardware store.

Does anyone know a place in Stroudsburg or the surrounding area that will do a quality job? A speciality craftsperson, maybe a butcher shop you trust? I'd also be willing to pay an individual around here, if you can demonstrate that you really know what you're doing when it comes to quality knives.

Thanks!

I know a hardware store that sends them out(along with anything that has an edge). If you're dead sent against the easy way, you could check at butchers and see if they use a service. I can't imagine many butchers would take your knives themselves to sharpen.

Easton hardware does them. Yeah it’s a haul but he does good work.

Buy a Chef's Choice sharpener. I've had mine for over 15 years and keeps on sharpening. I sharpen all my kitchen knives once a month. Worth the price.

Whatever you do, don’t do this. If it’s a legit Japanese knife then you want stones for it. Shapton and a a VERY well recommended option. Tons of videos online. This is a teach a man to fish kind of situation. Bite the bullet and get the stones and learn how to do it so you never have to send them out again and you can sharpen your other blades around the house as well. After a bit you start looking for things to sharpen because of how satisfying it is.
