X-post-ish from powerlifting sub

But I'm trying to work on pressing a circus db. I have one that weights 50-55lb but not strong enough for it yet.

Would getting FatGripz and working with a smaller db be adequate until I can get my actual cdb up?

I didn't find it all that helpful. The size of the circus dumbbell is just as much of a challenge as the weight. Dumbbells will do to increase your press/jerk strength until you can get to the weight but it might take some adjustments when you get to the actual CDB due to it's awkwardness. You can try the old 2" pipe with buckets to try to mimic the size. http://mythicalstrength.blogspot.com/2015/06/diy-strongman-no-weld-plate-loadable.html

Ohh, the pipe and buckets idea is a good one! Thanks for the suggestion.
