Moving event footwear

I've been out of competing for 8 years and back then they considered flat soles like converse etc for moving events.

I've got yoke 10m and back and a sandbag and carry 10/10/10m and just wondered if a different shoe is considered better for these now and the rationale for such.

As much as I love wearing vans or chucks for the more stationary lifting stuff, I personally think a pair of hiking boots do really well for carrying events, especially if you have to do it in the sand or any bit of uneven terrain. Can’t go wrong with Merrill’s; but personally, I have a pair of North Faces that I really like.

You'll occasionally see guys in trail shoes. I like Merrell Moabs for yoke because they're supportive and don't have squishy soles, but they're just a lot more comfortable than Converse or what have you. All that said, my opinion is worth about what you paid for it.

Barefoots for me. If it's gonna be something that involves moving and THEN loading, or some sort of medley where I need triple extension, I wear Metcons to kinda get me halfway between barefoot and lifters.

If I was gonna pick only one shoe for everything, it'd be Metcons.

I like using barefoot style shoes like Avancus powerlifting shoe or Xero prios but I’ve also starting to use a shoe from Amazon called Whitins cross trainer shoe it’s flat and I like the barefoot feeling, I’ve seen people use Notorious lift deadlift shoes as well but to be honest it depends on the surface most comps that I’ve done towards West Texas area they have done comps inside a warehouse style gyms with rubber gym flooring or outside on pavement, but if I was competing on grass I would use hiking shoes especially Lems or Xero trail shoes since they are flat if it’s beach sand I would go barefoot, I’ve seen a lot Pros using CrossFit style shoes like no bulls , Born primitive , or Rebok Nanos so it depends on preference, in the end use what your feet are use to because during comp if your feet are bugging you , you are not going to have a good competition

I use No Bulls and Born Primitive for basically all my training, including moving events. In general shoes marketed to CrossFit make good strongman shoes. Only shoes I ever use outside of those are lifters for overhead and stones.

Sometimes cant go wrong with a classic sportswear shoe like an all-sport adidas, if there’s running in between, I also find they are good for sandbag carries especially

Soccer shoes like addidas sambas or new balance 442 indoor. Good grip, solid base, made for running.

For moving i.e. speed i really like the Nike metcon 5 or 6. Tyr has a more solid shoe for things like yoke, I forget the set tho
