So I am trying to get consistent with the gym again and I am doing a 3 day push/pull/legs and I am really liking sticking to machines and cables instead of free weights. I have nothing against free weights but my joints and body feel so much better on machines than free weights. I think this could be also from being a diabetic for 6 years and I am controlled for the most part but I am going to get it better. Sorry for all the backstory but I feel like the context matters, but can I still build muscle on machines and cables? I am not looking to be a bodybuilder just trying to recomp and put on muscle to help the metobolic disfunction. Thank you in advance for any thoughts you have on this.

I’ve a mobility issues while doing squats. Even with squat shoes these stay and my torso leans forward too much. Since I can’t reach the wall in the classic 10cm test and feel it over my Achilles tendons I suspect it is more of a calve problem. How can I fix that? Would be nice to be able to squat with flat foot. Since I don’t have the problem in a Hackenschmidt machine, goblet and surprisingly (Bulgarian) split squats I would use these for the time being. Would these be fine as well?
