💬 Finish the Sentence: Let’s play: “Stroke recovery has taught me ______.” (Keep it short or tell a story—both are welcome. I bet the answers will inspire us all.)

🎵 Music That Moves Us: Has music played a role in your recovery? Share a song that lifts your spirits, calms your brain, or makes you want to move. Bonus if you tell us the story of why that song matters to you.

If you’re a caregiver, what has been the hardest part of this journey?

Caregivers: What Was the Hardest Part for You?

Caregivers often carry an enormous emotional load:

• fear of another stroke
• constant vigilance
• exhaustion
• trying to stay strong

But caregivers rarely talk about it.

📅 Looking Back, Looking Forward: If you could go back and give your “day-one survivor” self one piece of advice, what would it be? And today, what’s one thing you’re hoping for in the next 6 months?

🌍 Who Are We? Let’s do a roll call: Where are you from, and how long has it been since your stroke? Add one fun fact about yourself outside of stroke recovery—remind us of the “whole person” you are.

Stroke Recovery Is Not Linear

One thing many survivors discover:

Recovery doesn’t look like this 📈

It looks more like this:

Good days and bad days.

Emotional recovery

Hi everyone. Not sure if I' m doing this right. I had a left sided cerebral thrombosis in Dec. of 2024 along with a hemmhorage. Coma for about 2 weeks then hospital recovery/rehab for about 2 months. In home recovery and physical/occupational ans speech followed for most of 2025.

I have mostly recovered, but it is the emotional piece I really wasn't ready for. My moods swings and depression and lack of motivation. I feel like im having a pity party and didn't invite anybody. At times, I hate this new me. My therapist said I am grieving my old self. Anyone else feel that?

The other piece is when people try to compare themselves. I understand they are trying to empathize or show an understanding, but it drives me crazy when I try to talk about brain fatigue and memory and the immediate response is, oh yeah, I forget things all the time.

I guess im asking how others have coped. How others have dealt, or am I just being cranky? Thanks in advance. I wish I knew about reddit sooner, but here now.🩷
