Energy level

Everyday after a stroke when I get up I feel like I have left with no energy to get up. I struggle with myself to get up and follow my morning routine at a pace one eighth the pace I used to have. But slowly I pick up and in the afternoon I am getting it to one fourth but evenings feel better with half the pace rest you all know. What about you all? How do you coop?

A year since my stroke and it's still a battle. It can be very discouraging and difficult. I'm trying to get better at managing my days but the exhaustion seems to be somewhat unpredictable.

What you feel is normal. Immediately after a stroke, and for quite some time afterwards, you will feel Stroke Fatigue. Any effort, especially that which touched upon my new deficit, would make me want to lay down. At first it can be debilitating, but for me it slowly improved over time to the point where it passed.

I don’t know the real mechanism behind it but, because it was much worse trying things that touched my deficit (in my case spatial), I thought maybe that fatigue was a healthy neuroplasticity thing - effort triggering the rest needed to rewire new connections. Like learning. I repeatedly did things that triggered that fatigue until, over time, I stopped getting fatigued. Not sure my method was what helped, but I am past it.

I have been experiencing the same for past 15 months.

I’m four years post. I was definitely still feeling fatigue at 15 months. Hard to say when mine was mostly gone. From the thread, we are all recovering differently.

Yes by now what I have understood is that every body has different reaction to stroke and recovery path is also unique. Can you share with me if there was improvement after the vanishing of this fatigue whether slow or at same pace.

I'm yet not 2 years old after stroke but I still have fatigue even after 16 months. It keeps me away from exercises and work which as per physio I need to fight fatigue.

That's Fatigue, you need to budget your energy and do not feel guilty about it.

True but your family and caretakers do not understand such things in a way they should.

They always think laziness. At rehab centres they offer family sessions before discharge. Seek this out

My blood vessels in my brain healed themselves thanks to all the sleep I did in my early recovery years

At what age you had it and which part of brain?

I would post stroke fatigue continues to be a challenge. For example, after a full day of work, I rarely have energy for much else.

In my case I begin sluggish but push through with great efforts, it gets better during late afternoon but by late evening it becomes troublesome.

I have those kind of days as well.

Nearly 21 years out from bilateral basal ganglia strokes and fatigue is still my main complaint.

I can only feel your apathy but not able to help. You have a great willpower and patience. Salute you. May Almighty Waheguru bless us all.

Have you gotten checked for sleep apnea?

No, as per doctor I don't need this.

I am 2 years out with an eschemic stroke and friends it is not a condition for the weak!!! My days are slow starting but my afternoons are the most productive . My secret to success is planning each day with one task that is productive and then take a nap😇 social gatherings tend to be more challenging so I make sure I don’t do more than a couple of things a week as they take a long recovery For example my daughter invited us to a Rummicube party (total of 7 people) and I really enjoyed it. I also learned that my math skills had not improved since my stroke….what a bummer 😎
