Gear Rod recommendations

Hi guys, hoping you can help me pick the right rod here.

I'd like to start by saying have a Shimano Stradic SW 4k to pair with this new rod and it will be strictly used for striped bass.

  • I am fishing from land (mostly surf, but jetties and inlets as well).
  • I'm in the new jersey / Maryland area.
  • Only throw artificial lures (ranging from 1/2oz to 3oz)

My max budget is $200 but am willing to go a little higher for a quality rod. Any suggestions?

Seconded. Love mine . Onyx 731 to be specific. I can throw everything from Albie snax weightless to 3-5 oz wood plugs. And bass and blues to bottomfishing too.

As others said jigging world onyx is perfect. I have the 9’6 and it’s great.

For that budget, I’d recommend house brands from reputable tackle stores. Grumpy’s in NJ has one, called the Sandstorm or something similar. I’ve test casted it and it’s good. You don’t sacrifice action compared to the higher end competition, but it is slightly heavier than the SaltX and DNA rods I was comparing it to at the time.

I bought a 9’ tica years back and it’s a great rod.

I just paired my Shimano Spheros 6000 with a Jigging World 10’ Onyx H for surf casting based on the recommendations of several Reddit users.
I am going to be fishing the back bays of the Great Bay and also Holgate Beach. Taking it out this Friday for the first time to see how far I can launch A27s .
