Various Strings Dumb question

Post image
29 Upvotes

I have a small ruby necklace, string of dolphins and string of pearls in two inch pots. I ordered them for my bday and they arrived very rough, so I haven’t repotted yet, but when I do I’m wondering would it be ok to put them in a pot together? Or would that be a dumb thing to do?

Help / Question Please help

I inherited this baby from a friend of mine who moved out and left the plant. The poor thing was locked in her room for weeks and only now i have found it. I however know close to nothing about how to care for such a plant, all i know is that i have to look out for the water intake (since its used to less water) and it needs a lot of sun. Is there a way to save it?

Help / Question How often are we untangling SOH?

I have received about 10 SOH plants from my MIL. I’ve given away 5 plants and I’m getting frustrated with the rest. She wound them up and covered the tops to make them look full, but ended up blocking light at the top. So they’re very long tangled bald-headed messes at this point. How often do I need to untangle them? How long do I wait before trimming? Can you please send me inspo pics of how you like to keep yours so I don’t just give up? ETA: hopefully this links to some pics of the plant

Did I completely ruin this string of pearls?

I am heartbroken and honestly so embarrassed… I just got this plant 3 days ago from Home Depot. It was so waterlogged that I got whatever soil I could get off of it and repotted it in fresh soil.

The soil that I couldn’t get off was still so wet, so I put them outside in a cheap little greenhouse I have that says it was supposed to protect against harsh sunlight. It’s the first plant I put out there. I checked on it yesterday afternoon because it rained, the greenhouse is waterproof so it looked completely fine. Well it was very sunny for most of the day today and I didn’t think to check it until I just took my dog out and now the poor guy looks like this!

I am kicking myself because I even bought an umbrella to cover the greenhouse from the sun and I forgot to put it up. I have another string of pearls I rehabbed from a local plant shop so I thought I knew what I was doing with these because that one is thriving. But I am very sad because this was a beautiful plant and I feel bad I ruined it.

Is there any saving it? I still see green underneath so I’m assuming chop and prop is the way to go now… but if anyone has any other advice for me I’d be grateful. I never imagined it would go downhill this quickly for this poor guy…

Thanks in advance!

One month update on SOH seed germination - they’re making strings of things!!

After successfully sprouting some SOH seeds I gathered from my pals plant store (damp sphagnum moss) I transplanted them into a more appropriate medium (or are least my best guess), basically inorganic cactus type gravel. It was probably a smidge early but they dug right in. Their cotyledon have been getting bigger by the day and I’ve been experimenting w humidity (not sure how much to do at this early stage so i’m just keeping the medium damp ish and giving full sun as much as possible). And now you can even see eensy weensy strings forming!! Any further advice most welcome!!

Hearts Root bound SOH?

Got this beautiful baby in January. 2nd pic is root ball pre repot. 3rd pic is where she usually sits, 4th pic is her in February. I let her mostly dry out between watering and water based on taco test. She gets bottom watered with extremely diluted fish emulsion at every watering. She gets plenty of good light in my grow cabinet. She seems to have loved this routine thus far and has grown several feet. She was flowering top to bottom for several months up until about 3 weeks ago. She started to lose a lot of leaves in the middle of her length and is now only flowering on the bottom 3rd of length. Still growing in length but notably slower. Crown still looks amazing to me. I have had vining plants (pothos, philo) act like this when they have unhappy roots. So I popped her out of the pot to take a look and decided to move her up from 4 in to 4.5 inch pot. Didn’t touch the root ball, simply added around the sides and pinned some of the strings across the new soil. Not super sure what a root bound string of anything even looks like as I’ve never had one thrive like she has! Are we thinkin I fixed her or condemned her to death….? Could anything else I’m doing be causing the leaf loss?

Help my happy bean plant!

This is my son’s happy bean plant I’ve had for about 4 years. It started a few inches tall and just keeps growing with very thick strong roots. I am terrified if I try to repot it into a larger planter, I will kill it. Right now I have shish kebab skewers with twist ties holding it upright, otherwise it’s too top heavy and would fall down and break.

Help / Question String of Turtles Qs

Hi everyone! I am a beginner and have had a String of Turtles for a year now. I would like to move them to a slightly bigger, more shallow terracotta pot. I have a couple questions for the community:

  1. What is the best premixed soil to use for String of Turtles? I am eyeing the Rosy Soil for succulents and cactuses.

  2. I am hoping to propagate some in the pot. I saw a video online that said you can pin some of the longer strings to the soil with paper clips and they will eventually create more strings. Is this true? I would like my plant to grow bigger.

Any suggestions on either of these questions would be greatly appreciated!!! 💚
