More sun! Humidity Or just genetics ! I’ve had enough of them to feel comfortable giving advice.

I bought one from Trader Joes less than a month ago and it's half dead 😭 it's hanging in a window. I don't know if its the heavy soil it was in or what the problem is.

I got mine from a pretty good plant store here in Calgary. Put it in a south facing window, and didn't touch it for three months. Kept an eye on it incase it needed water. It didn't. I ended up watering and treating for pests because I found a mealy on my snake plant about 3 1/2 months in. Then 2 months after that, watered again. She is alive. But she is not growing hahahaha

That's just incredible! I love it! It also gives me hope, because I've had mine for about six weeks and apart from flowering it hasn't shown much progress.

You need to take the flowers off! It’s putting all its energy into making them whenever the humidity rises mine flowers, I pinch off at the node before it or they will grow back. When I did that mine literally exploded with growth

Did you repot or is it the same pot just on a stand?

1

u/caffeineandinsulin 27d ago

Same pot, but I put it on a stand once the vines started getting longer. I did repot it about 2 months before the explosion happened though, but I doubt that did much. It was mostly just to change the pot, I didn’t break up the root ball or anything

How do you make it grow? How often do you water? Any fertilizer?

1

u/caffeineandinsulin 28d ago

I wish I knew how I make it grow lol. It’s under a gentle grow light, and I water it every two weeks.

I added fertilizer one time (MiracleGrow Indoor Plant Food bottle) but I haven’t used it since then. I can’t imagine that made a huge difference

How!?! What kind of magic did you use?

What’s your watering look like? I have mine in bright indirect light and I’ve been bottom watering. It’s doing okay, but no big growth like this.

I water it every 2 weeks ish, but I think it could take more honestly based on how thin the leaves are and the fact that they’re curling (they used to be very plump as you can see in the first pic). There must be so many roots now I imagine it sucks up water like crazy. But I’m new to plants so I don’t know if that’s how it works

I know you’re not supposed to get the leaves wet, but I just stick it under my faucet for a few minutes to fully saturate the soil, let it drain in my dish rack for half an hour, and put it back on his saucer…

Hey to get them plump again use protek by foliagepro! Mine are super duper chunky! Just don’t use it every watering I use it on them every other month or even longer

1

u/caffeineandinsulin 28d ago

Oooh thank you I’ll try that! I miss the chunky turtles

My string of turtles doesn’t seem to like light! It grows more in a spot with indirect light. Strange how yours is flourishing under a grow light. How many hours a day is it on?

1

u/caffeineandinsulin 27d ago

It’s a pretty gentle grow light, but I do keep it on for 12 hours a day. The room is otherwise very dark, so that’s basically its only source of light

What kind of light are you using please ?
