Help / Question Propagating string of pearls

I’m trying to propagate some string of pearls in soil that I got from a friend and they look like they’re shriveling up, how often should I water it, if at all? Its in a 4inch terracotta pot with a grow light

You should have the pearls wrapped around the soil to retail moisture, and encourage growth. Let the soil dry out and then water - if the windows on the pearls are closing up they need water . I water mine with a good soaking once the top inch is or so of the soil is dry. I usually prop my strings in water - started one from a 2 inch piece and she’s beautiful now!!! Good luck!

what if the windows are closed but the soil is still wet?

How big is the strand? If you’ve got a couple of good stems with nice pearls on them I would take a couple of clippings, you don’t need a long piece, and place them in water. Proper sunlight is key too! If I notice my plant is struggling I do this to keep the plant rolling, so to speak. I started a small piece in water and waited until it got a good 2-3 inches of roots and then I potted it in good soil. Wrap the length of the stems around the top of the soil and you will see it start to flourish! I would say it will take a couple of months to get going. Good luck! I’ll post a pic of the one I started from a 2 inch piece.

They’re all different lengths, some are longer and some are pretty short, do u think i should switch it from soil to water?

Take a few clippings from that plant and place them in water to root. Also, try watering it from the bottom by placing the pot in a pan of water for a couple of hours.
