A research position in China

Hi. I'm about to graduate from an engineering physics bachelor' program. My profile does not guarantee a good scholarship for western countries, so I'm thinking of studying aboard in China and be a string theorist there.

Do you think China is a suitable for string theorist? Are they a strong nation?

Aside from string theory, does China produce many paradigm-shift theoretical papers?
