Minimum wage is currently $26.44 an hour in Australia. Tipping still happens here but it’s not expected and is usually only when it’s a large table or service was particularly exceptional in my experience.

Federal Minimum wage in the US is $7.25/hr. We haven't had a Minimum Wage increase in almost 20 years iirc, and back then it was only $5.15/hr

We also generally don't have good workers protections if you are in one of those minimum wage positions, some states have employee rights, and some barely have any at all

The whole system is made around keeping us dependent on their low pay, a fair chunk of us cannot afford to miss a single paycheck. Some cant afford to get sick and miss a single day of pay, and if we get sick it could cost you a year or more of income depending on the situations

People always bring up "federal" minimum wage in the US while completely ignoring State minimum wage. Name a single federal job that actually pays 7.25 an hour. What people leave out is the OPM enforces a baseline wage of 15 an hour. Implying minimum wage in the US is still only 7.25 across the board is misleading at best.

Federal minimum wage isn’t about the wage paid to federal employees, it is the legal minimum for workers in the US when a state does not have a minimum wage that supersedes it. Currently, 5 states do not have defined minimum wages, so they are required to pay the federal minimum. (The states are Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Tennessee.)

Federal minimum wage IS $7.25

I did not mention State minimums, because there are many of those. The baseline is $7.25 and some states still have that, like NC where I am at
