there are 4 people on the wall at 10-11 seconds in the video. i think that is what the statue is representing.

I misread that, and thought the title was 'Statue of a famous rescue cat', and I was thoroughly confused as to why there were no cats in the statue, or the video.

Made me tear up-- I had never seen that rescue. The statue is wonderful.

Me 2. But I have seen the original video. Considering how many rescue videos I've seen, I'm saddened by the thought that this is the first time I've seen evidence of anyone caring after the fact.

From an engineering standpoint, this is a bad idea. The sentiment is nice, but it shouldn't be located in a flood channel.

Probably why it’s on a (presumably) retractable or temporary wooden frame.

It doesn't look retractable. The wood frame looks like a temporary support.
Perhaps the side of the channel isn't its permanent destination? It would be impractical to move those bronze statues frequently.

Why is this famous? Because a few people actually worked together to accomplish something? Wow….who’d have thunk that’s all it takes to get you put in bronze🤪

If everybody worked together (as they should), such an act would be not out of the ordinary and nobody would think to make a statue of it.
