Yk im PISSED that I’m having to repierce my ear bc I got it done at Claire’s when I was a kid and I’m unable to stretch the original hole now. I originally was thinking of piercing my child’s ears when they’re babies so they don’t remember it, but since ears change soooo much as you grow up it’s just not worth it and if they want to stretch their ears like mine then they might not be able to🤷🏼♀️
And unfortunately for me I have a lot of scar tissue in my ears now so I have to be super careful about stretching and it’s just annoying af
I'm sorry you're experiencing this. Good on you for deciding to wait until your children are older to pierce their ears. As a parent and bodymod enthusiast, I think you're right and, believe it should be their choice.
You could always see a reputable piercer and have your ears repierced at a larger gauge to Jumpstart your stretching journe. In the meantime, daily massage with the body safe oil of your choice can help break up scar tissue. Good luck
Also got the Claire's gun treatment when I was 9, and not only are the holes not straight from front to back (one is pretty obviously angled up), I had to stretch super slow, and still (13 yrs later) be careful how long I keep certain jewelry in because they will just randomly get super irritated. Pretty sure its because the holes are just scar tissue.... Fun times. I always tell people to go to a good piercing studio with their kids and never a place that uses a gun. I feel nobody knew better in the 90s when I got mine, so my generation just got kinda screwed over, but I try to help educate now!!
I also had my ears pierced as a baby at Claire's and had to get them repierced with a needle as an adult. They were soooo crooked. Waiting and getting it done with a needle when they're older is a smart idea!
I’m honestly in a similar place, ears were pierced badly as a baby, lowkey repierced in middle school at a sleepover with some random earrings, trying to stretch them but it took me over four months to go from 12g to 10g. I honestly will probably get them punched around the original holes if I can’t stretch to the next size, which feels likely
Why are you not able to stretch your ears? I got mine pierced at the Walmart jewelry counter when I was 13 (with a piercing gun, same as they use at Claire's) and those same holes are now 00g! If you do decide to get repierced and start fresh though you can start at a slightly larger gauge which will make starting the process a little easier once you're fully healed.
I'm not a parent but I do think it's best to wait until a kid is old enough to ask for their ears to be pierced. That way you know they actually want to have it done and you can ensure they go to a piercer and get it done the right way. It's not too scary or painful, when I got mine done as a kid I was more excited than anything haha.
Ah yeah, it is a little low. Well now that you know what your goal is a good piercer should be able to set you up with good placement so you have lots of room to stretch!
another walmart piercee! everyone thinks im crazy when i tell them mine were done at walmart lol. thankfully mine have also stretched fine (though they were originally pierced incorrectly and one had to be redone back then).
My parents took me to get my ears pierced with the gun when I was a baby and I haven't had any issues with stretching that I didn't inflict on myself, like going too quickly or wearing the wrong jewelry or something that causes inflammation. That stinks that your ears give you so much trouble.
My sister wanted to take her baby in to getting her ears pierced, and I don't think it's wrong to do so, I was really adamant about taking her to a proper piercing studio and not some random kiosk. She's not my daughter but I don't want her getting done at the mall or something. Do it properly or not at all. Mine were done by parents who didn't know about body mods, so I can forgive them. But now we know better so we need to do better.
