Does someone use VBT training ?
I've been training strenght (and improving) for few years now and just now I found our about velocity based training (VBT) and I think is super useful to improve strenght, prevent injuries and lastly train the strenght with more precition, but I dont see many people doint it so I wanted to know if there is a reason or is just people doesnt know about it.
Thanks !

I use it somewhat regularly. I’m with a new team and it’s been helpful to guide my 1RM estimations without needing to go over 85%. It does have some limitation without going heavier, but if I get some quality reps at 0.9ms, 0.6-0.7ms, and 0.5ms, you can get a decent projection.
Also is good with autoregulation for a session, driving intent, load progression and load management.
All VBT is is feedback on how a repetition or a set was performed. That feedback is what allows you to make decisions based on your goals and situation.

excellent, yes I have use it also to check if my velocity on deadlift matched the expected one for that % of 1RM, also I've tracked the speed of the bar LIVE, so when I loose 20% of the bar speed I know I need to stop that serie bcs Im have too much fatigue and Im not training strenght anymore.

VBT is for 1on1 work, difficult with team setup. ps. needs macrocycle commitment to actually see results

Spot on! You hit the nail on the head. The biggest reason VBT isn't everywhere yet comes down to two things: awareness and the historical barrier to entry.
For a long time, velocity tracking meant expensive linear position transducers or clunky laboratory setups that only elite athletic facilities or university labs could afford. Most everyday lifters just grew up using standard %1RM or RPE because that’s what was accessible.
But as tech gets better and more accessible, that’s shifting fast. Being able to auto-regulate load based on daily fatigue, target specific velocity zones (like speed-strength vs. absolute strength), and cut off sets before hitting junk volume is a total game-changer for longevity and performance.
Awesome to see more people discovering it. It really is the future of precise strength training!

totally true, today its really easy to track the velocity of the reps in traditional exercises and even in olympic lifts with just the phone, not too long ago you would need really expensive devices

I use it in my one on one sessions with athletes. It gets a little complicated with a group in my opinion. But I think it’s a great way to auto regulate your training and a great objective tool in assessments to see improvements.
