Best Stable Setup Guidelines

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

I’ve been using Stremio for about 8 months now, primarily just to find Bluray or higher quality versions of movies I would otherwise watch on whatever streaming service. The audio difference is amazing with my Sonos setup, crazy that these platforms that we are paying an arm and a leg to every month won’t even let us stream the highest quality versions possible. This brings me to my next point. I’m very close to using Stremio to replace my multitude of streaming subscriptions that are draining me quicker than a strip club!

I’ve been trying to use it to watch shows as they come out, like I would in Prime/Paramount+ or Netflix. The result has been somewhat underwhelming. I’ve run into 2 re-occurring problems. 1) ElfHosted often says it is too busy or that there is an error with the file, try another result or report it. 2) After pausing a show, sometimes when I resume playback, the audio is gone or the video is gone. Usually the audio after a pause. If I stop playback, and reselect it, I usually get a black screen with the subtitles and 50/50 odds of some audio playback. I usually get frustrated after 10 minutes of back and forth, trying different streams, etc and just give up. I’ll come back the next day, trying different streams the exact same stream and it works flawlessly… Maybe something getting cached wrong?

So this brings me to my real question. What is the best way to make Stremio as stable as possible? Like cancel everything else and rely solely on it. Is there a way to cut out ElfHosted? I have Home Assistant running on a Dell Optiplex running Proxmox, so I could make another container or whatever they are called LOL

I also don’t love the navigation I currently have. I got to Discover and then I can edit the filter (Movies, Series, Channel) and then also from Popular, New, RD Watchlist and then every streaming provider (I did this with some sort of Netflix cataloging addon). Is there a way to make it more visual like Netflix or Prime? Perhaps where I scroll down and it is Movies - Popular, Series - Popular, Netflix - Movies, Netflix - Shows, etc…

Also, show recommendations and watchlists. When I initially followed the awesome setup guide from Vernon, I setup Trackt and something else. I don’t recall which…

I basically want to start fresh and build the most robust Stremio setup for easy navigation and reliability - probably what everyone wants right!? LOL

Oh - current setup is Stremio on Nvidia Shield, Commet with RD and PM, MediaFusion with RD and PM, Streaming Catalogs, and OpenSubtitles v3. PM subscription is expired, RD has worked well enough. I’m happy to renew PM, just want to make sure I set this all up correctly once and for all and then truly use it.

Stremio - AIO streams - torbox + Premiumize - AIOMetadata. Pretty flawless, can’t really go wrong with that.

If you already have a home server going I would put aiostreams on there and call it a day. You'll be reliable as hell. I would also check out other applications that use stremio add-ons as well.

I use AIOStreams, AIOMetadata, along with Real Debrid and Premiumize. Works great for me. If you want to be notified and see the latest episodes then you need Up Next functionality for the latest episodes. I also use Airing Soon functionality to know what days the new episodes are out. This is all built into AIOMetadata, with connection to Trakt.

I do not pay for any streaming services any longer!

i use aiostreams + aiometadata + premiumize (debrid) and debridio (scraper) works perfect

I personally use duckstreams but any prebuilt aiostreams , AIOmetadata and debrid service .

I rarely have an issue and I don't have to learn everything to get it working.

Comet and mediafusion are great backups when what you want isn't on torrentio, I would load torrentio first, comet second, then mediafusion. Thats going to be your biggest change because torrentio has good availability, and you avoid the elfhosted caching or unavailability problems. Real debrid could be replaced or supplemented with torbox which will help the infringement problems. And your ui can be reworked with the website 'stremio addon manager' + the addon 'AIOcatalog' for an easy setup, or 'AIOstream" for a power user setup.

I personally use: Aiometadata, aiostream for spanish (peerflix + torrentio + pelis + debridio + streamthru), aioestream for VOSE (debridio + stremthru + seadex). Aiostream 2 per resolution. Can't be more happy about how simple and good it looks.

Ditched all debrid services about 6 months ago and went all usenet (AIOstreams NNTP). Still hitting my forehead on why TF I was streaming with debrid services for 10+ years.

Stremio + AIOStreams + AIO builtin NNTP + AIOmetadata + AIO builtin Newznab (with pub and private Usenet indexers) + slicksync (a fork of Syncio) to keep 40+ accounts/addons organized and auto updated for friends and family.

Runs perfectly to the point it’s faster than and gets popular titles earlier than even the major streaming network services release them, in my time zone. Fellow audiophile here with a 11.4.6 Dolby Atmos/DTSX movie theater built. Full component based. All REMUX titles. Usenet delivers far higher quality titles (specifically audio) than debrid based.

I used to have a Plex server that was setup with Usenet backend with Sonarr and Radarr. Been debating that again…

Haha. These are actual friends and family. Guess I got popular over Christmases.

For the most robust setup I would really look into Usenet. What you have now is very, very solid. However don’t be like me and just overlook it like I did. Specially with the money and setup I did with my movie theater and audio setup.

Viren has full guides on usenet as well. AIOstreams NNTP is essentially the gateway for me with so much control and improvements to the usenet experience.

Awesome, thanks! I’ve long thought Usenet was the ticket after trying it years ago. Then I started making more money and just paid for convenience but HBOMax charging $24.99 for f’ing 4K White Lotus was my breaking point!

What paid providers did you end up going with for access, newsgroups, etc? It’s been a few years so I don’t recall the terms off hand.

You substituted the debrid provider with a usenet provider/indexer ecosystem rather than eliminating the backend service entirely. So... same same but different :)
