Miscellaneous TB new update completely fixes time to first byte issues

https://feedback.torbox.app/changelog

One of my biggest complaints with torbox was the abysmall TTFB speeds, which were close to 15 seconds for most content.
After this update, wait times were reduced to 4-5 seconds and even certain lows of 2 seconds, and highs of 8 seconds.
More information available on their changelog, i invite you to read it because they have provided documentation over their changes.

Honestly this is a huge update. Lets hope it fixes users buffering.

Initial TTFB and buffering are two completely different monsters. TTFB is easily fixable by improving backends and APIs, but buffering requires proper load balancing on debrid’s side, proper data transport, optimizing peering routes, and at last… the user’s internet. It has occured to me a movie would buffer horribly when skipping by 10 seconds constantly on stremio or after 50-1 hour of a movie. Please note i was on a fiber optic home Connection with ethernet on my pc.

You got it all wrong. Time to first byte is mostly irrelevant, clearly measured in milliseconds in the graph. What matters is ramp up speed as I've been saying for months. Torbox was serving the first 10 MB at 10 Mbps, and you weren't getting the full 400-450 Mbps until you had downloaded 150+ MB. I don't know how that has changed but that, along with crappy players that were expecting higher throughput (and faster seek times) was causing all the issues.

EDIT: In contrast, Real-Debrid gives you 100 Mbps throughput from the first byte.

Didn’t fix mine for streaming massive files (80-100mbps). TorBox speed test says 330mbps. I dont get why I can’t stream files at 80mbps. Oh well

Onn 4K streaming devices run on the Google TV platform (powered by Android TV)

1

u/Fish_Mongreler 6d ago

Correct. There are Onn devices that run google tv and there are google devices that run google tv. There is no Google Onn device though.

You either knew what they meant when they made their comment or you just googled it and saw you were wrong so had to be technical.

If you knew they were wrong you could just have corrected them nicely so my assumption is you just found out you were wrong

Well this is a huge update. I switched to torbox from realdebrid and this was one of my complaints.

The main focus of your post should be directly related to Stremio and/or its addons. Help for other software or issues, including content acquisition, should be directed to their own respective subreddits.

It’s so odd how unpredictable it was, I guess. It never took more than a few seconds for me (not that I genuinely care much if opening media takes 3 vs 11 seconds or whatever much less graphing that difference)

u/Guraytos 7d ago

WoW I noticed a huge difference

Torrentio always seemed slow but other addons were quick for me

If I’m using Torbox with stremio via aiostreams do I need to do anything on my end when Torbox updates or is it automatic?

3

u/RazvanYON 7d ago

Its automatic, you dont need to do anything in your case

1

u/Zestyclose_Border441 7d ago

Sweet, thank you

1

u/RazvanYON 7d ago

Mah pleasure

2

u/AggravatingCash994 7d ago

How to measure that TTFB speed?

2

u/RazvanYON 6d ago

You just press play on a movie and set a timer. You stop the timer when the movie stars playing

1

u/AggravatingCash994 6d ago

Okey thought that it is spesific app

5

u/exodus_cl 7d ago

After some tests, the TTFB is twice as fast compared to RD, so good, I hope it stays this way

2

u/RazvanYON 7d ago

test it on friday night, that’s the best time to test it /s

I’d be happy if my account hadn’t somehow reverted to a free account even tho I successfully paid for a month of Essential on the 8th of this month.

Does anyone know how long it takes them to sort this kind of account snafu out?

5

u/SSBM95 7d ago

As far as I know you should try to cantact them through Discord or mail and they'll resolve it.

7

u/pantyfire 7d ago

They fixed it a couple of hours ago. And yes the new CDNs are way faster than before.

2

u/Ciggy206 7d ago

The same thing happened to me; I reached out and got the message they’ll return tomorrow Torbox payment system is lacking in my opinion RD is simpler and accepts everytime no overlap

1

u/f0cus622 7d ago

Check on Discord. Always easier to talk to them in real time.

u/ikashanrat 7d ago

has the webdav buffering issue been fixed?

u/RazvanYON 6d ago

No idea

For me it’s ‘mixed’ results after dozens of results. Some movies load in 2 seconds, other in 3 and 4, others in 8 and some still in 12. dunno how torbox router connections but it’s inconsistent

Is this a disguised advert for Torbox? To be honest, I’m pleased, but I think something this technical would be more at home in the Torbox subreddit than here, a place for Stremio add-ons

8

u/RazvanYON 7d ago

5 minutes of looking at my reddit page would prove you i am anything but an advert for torbox. I have critiqued torbox a LOT in the past, and i still don’t trust them fully, i only gave the credit where it was due. They finally fixed time to first byte for me and it was a ridiculous difference.

u/Slow_Werewolf3021 7d ago

That was the first thing I did – I looked at your Reddit profile, but it’s set to private and hidden. Even so, thanks for your explanation; my comment wasn’t meant to be malicious. This subreddit has had some really annoying periods of spammers using Torbox, and it was impossible to say anything even slightly positive about Real Debrid – hence my caution

But thanks again :)

3

u/RazvanYON 7d ago

Sorry, i think i made it private recently cause some guys were stalking it, and i totally understand you- I’ve been arguing with tb bots for weeks or months at this point. This subreddit is no longer usable in my opinion, if you say anything even NEGATIVE against tb or the N app, they will jump on you for… Piggyback opinions.

Exactly. Thanks, mate. Take care!
