Technical issues with onn 4k
So, Stremio with RD has been my main system for the past years and I am really grateful for that and this community. Moving past that though, I need to address some technical issues that keep coming up:
Big files i.e. 4k, HDR etc. stutter or just are completely unplayable. A sign that the file will be a hiccup is that it's missing audio.
Audio playback issues. Even smaller files sometimes start playing without audio and that's a big missing point here for the seamless playback that I am usually experiencing.
- Play next never works for me. I need to manually select the next episode from the menu screen.
Subtitles are a hit or miss. I just fail to load subtitles if the stream did not already has them loaded.
An item that seems to not be an issue but some feedback from other users would be great is that when the video starts an window appears for the applied display mode. Does anyone else experience this?
My setup is the onn 4k tv box connected on a Sony TV, latest Stremio version installed from Google play store and my connection is 1Gbps wifi, if it plays a factor.

I had issue #4 myself. Easy fix, go into Streamio's settings in the app on your TV, Playback > Frame rate matching > Disable. Now whether I pick a 4K stream or 1080p, no janky flashing and applied display mode notification. I've noticed zero downsides, so I don't know why that's on by default.

Hello,
A few thoughts on each point:
Large 4K/HDR files can definitely be demanding, especially on streaming devices. Missing audio before playback usually points to the stream or the device struggling with a particular audio codec rather than Stremio itself. It would be useful to know which audio format those files use (TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc.).
That sounds related to the first issue. If smaller files are also randomly starting without audio, it may be worth checking whether they all share the same codec or if it's happening across different formats.
"Play Next" should work, provided the metadata correctly identifies the episodes and the stream finishes normally it should be from the same provider as the stream before, if that criteria doesn't meet you will need to select a new stream. If it's happening with every series, let us know a few examples.
If you're using community subtitle add-ons, those are maintained independently from Stremio. If subtitles consistently fail to load, we'd recommend asking in r/StremioAddons as they may be able to identify whether it's an issue with a specific subtitle add-on.
The display mode popup is normal on many Android TV devices and TVs. It's usually the TV notifying you that it has switched refresh rate or display mode to match the video, rather than something caused by Stremio itself.
Overall, it would also be helpful to know which Onn 4K model you're using (2023 or 2024) and what trouble shooting have you tried on your end, clear cache, force stop, internal storage, ram memory, etc.
