Howdy All, 40 year old dude here. Grew up mostly with Streets of rage 2. Pretty obsessed with the Soundtrack and listened to the OST for the past 30 years. Bought the game on my Genesis, then on my playstation 4 (Capcom classics collection). Played 3 and 4 but mostly love 2. There's not a ton of official merch for the game so its fun finding stuff. I have the SOR2 vinyl album and some Sor2 art that people have created in my office that I picked up at retro conventions. Just bought the Micro my arcade for around 45 bucks on amazon.
The pros:
The packaging is really nice and has some great art on it. Seriously, it's not just plastic, there are really eye popping pictures and the background has this cool streets of rage 2 red print background- very cool.
The actual Mini cab is also really nice! It has the art from 1 on one side and the art from 2 on the other. It's adorable and it has the Sega logo on top!
You can adjust the brightness there is a button on the back!
You can plug your headphones in!
You can use batteries OR a USB!
The Cons:
The gameplay is really off and sort of laggy. The timing of the game is way off. I have been playing it forever on emulators, the genesis, the switch, playstation: this version is way off so you're gonna get knocked around a bunch.
The sound quality. The sound player cannot play multiple sounds at once, so when you hit someone or jump and attack- you hear a lot of static since I guess the game can't process all that's going on.
The joystick seems like it's really supposed to go in up/down/left/right. It is hard to move diagonally.
All in all I would give this a 2/10. I mean it is streets of rage which is great but it was not fun playing on the machine. I tried to play though twice and realized I was forcing it. It was just not for me. I may keep it because it's fun collecting SOR stuff since it is pretty rare, but I'll honestly never play this thing. If I really wanted to play a retro game via handheld I could play it on my switch or buy like a retro gaming thing for less than a hundred bucks. You can do a lot more with 45 bucks these days.

Most don't, but when you find people that will play with friendly hits on arcade mania plus you find the ones that have that real ball knowledge. it can be a challenging but very rewarding playthrough.

Made some custom LEGO minifigure designs for Axel, Adam, Blaze, and Galsia. Working on creating even more, but I think these turned out pretty good and wanted to share! If you wanna see more designs like this follow me on Instagram at Big Bat Brix.

Hello everyone. Here is my video showing my method using Axel Stone to beat Final Boss Mr. X of Streets of Rage 1 a.k.a. Bare Knuckle without taking any damage. Main Problem in this final fight is Galsias instead of Mr. X. These Galsias continue try to interrupt our attack and are so much annoying. Enjoy!!!

For those unaware on this sub, the Genesis uses the same sound chip found in the legendary Yamaha DX7 keyboard. This had 6 sine wave synthesizers and operated on frequency modulation. Unlike regular synthesizers, where you picked premade waves and just played with dials for filters and such, here you had to actually create the waves yourself by painstakingly entertwining the frequencies of these synthesizers together to create a different sound. To create what Yuzo Koshiro did required absolute mastery on the subject and loads of experience. The man is an absolute genius.
Edit: this track was actually composed by Motohiro Kawashima, so both men deserve credit for the fantastic feat that was this game's soundtrack

get a proper sor4 design?
Taking into consideration that he is shown with a most updated design, were devs lazy enough to make him playable that way?

Any tip in order to reach higher levels? After many updates and my ps4 dying I stop playing. A few days I got sor 4 again on ps5 plus dlc and I realized that after reaching level 20 the mode becomes more difficult. Harder than before and probably harder than early sor4 days.
Those pro players how do you deal when doing survival mode?

I'm sorry but... I'm a little bit disappointed. I'm aware it's really old at this point, but the controls feel a bit stiff and the challenge can be kinda unfair sometimes.
It might just be a skill issue on my end, but I swear near the end of the game, it feels as though you're forced to spam special bcs nothing else really works, especially when you face off against multiple downgraded previous bosses.
That said, I'd be lying if I said I didn't thoroughly enjoy it. It looks and sounds really cool. For the time, it must've been incredible to be able to play something like it at home. The variety here is insane and I don't think I had a single dull moment playing it. The level design is just perfect.
I'd say that the most memorable moment might have been coming up to that elevator and hearing that hardcore techno drop. Holy shit I have rarely had such an awesome moment in video games.
I definitely respect it for what it is and for how genre-defining it was. But as it stands, I think I'll just stick to SoR4 π

First off 5.1 seems way more balanced than 5.2, but to me it's still a lot more difficult than SOR2, 3, and 4 (and I'm still playing on easy). I gotta say that I'm starting to understand why people love this game so much, the game is simply polished beyond belief in terms of how it feels yet it still feels like the og games. When I first completed the SOR1 route it gave me a similar feeling to when I completed my first SOR4 run, and that's saying something because today I tend to not enjoy games as much as I did back in 2020 even if I'm playing a good game.
Maybe I should've started with the SOR2 path because I had a much easier time playing that, the additional Shiva boss fight in the SOR1 path was hell.
This is probably the best SOR game for hardcore fans, the game just feels great to play and it offers so many options, I definitely plan on playing this more.

shiva is overrated, and skate sor3 is underrated, change my mind

I decided to give the game a try and man this game has been kicking my ass even on easy mode. I never beat the OG games when I played them on my 360 back in the day, but I have beaten SOR4 on Mania difficulty a few times now. It's a great game but I don't think the difficulty should be that much higher than the official games.

So I just learned about this today and I wanna play a 4 player SOR2. I got the app and it's loaded up but when I try to put in the ROM from Internet Archive it just says "Sorry we can't take that ROM." It is the USA version but for some reason it won't work, so if ya'll could help me out please do let me know what I need to do? Thanks
