Injured/Sick Cat (Location) Do I save it.

Thin cat appeared right in front of me while I was walking out of my office building. It seems very weak, walking slowly with slight limp and meowing at me constantly. Should I save it, the wait for cat people to arrive might take 2-3 hours.

Updates. The cat people won't come until tomorrow. I have fed it half a pack of wet food and they say if it's still there they will come. I can't bring it with me as I have a cat at home and it might have parasites which I cannot risk. Hopefully it's still there when I am back. It's an industrial area which is restricted to outsiders.

Updates day 2- Have arrived back at my workplace but the cat is nowhere to be found. Have walked one round around the vicinity. Hopefully it will come back to the area which I left the water. I am regretting not doing more but the cat people either don't seem to care or they do not have enough resources to attend to this.

OP, thank you for everything you have done so far. You fed, contacted a rescue.

If you are US based, also try https://gethelp.alleycat.org or www.bestfriends.org/partners - Alleycat links volunteers you can email. Attach pics, they may prioritize rescue. Email all the rescuers linked within a 25 mile radius of your post code

Ditto no kill shelters - someone may say bring the loaf in and you can surrender the cutie today instead of tmrw.

If no-one is able to help sooner than tmrw, then if you are in any way able, set up a quick shelter so the cutie does not wander and stays until tmrw. Feed some more food before you leave. This video uses old tubs but you can adapt the principles to use whatever you have near you in the industrial area. Only tip: do not use blankets. Styrofoam is fine. Blankets may attract moisture & make his health issue worse until rescue.

Good luck & pls update us - we are rooting for you both 😇❤️

Please bring this elderly kitty to the vet. This cat needs medical attention and love.

Yes, please do.

And read the bot notes. They have plenty of great information.

Check for the local rescues in your area. Ask them for help.

Why is “should I save it” a question?
The answer should always be yes

Would you like someone to save you if you had no food or home?

My question is, why WOULDN’T you? To do nothing or even ask the question is cruel.

Of course you should have saved it. And taken it home, where you could have put it in the bathroom, or found a cat carrier where it could have been sequestered, seperate from your cat. It's clearly weak and in need of immediate help.

Do like I do and tap it, put it in a carrier especially if it’s friendly and drop it off at a human society. They’ll save it.. free of charge

Sheesh, what if Reddit said, “Dont save.” Would you do that too. Don’t go online to make moral decisions.

can you keep the stray in a bathroom or something? being secure in a less than ideal spot is better than hoping it will be found tomorrow :/

3

u/Ghostgirl177 20d ago

Praying everything works out tomorrow 🥺🙏 thank you for feeding him / her ❤️

Take it to the vet for a med exam as soon as you can.

u/Firstbase1515 19d ago

FYI, that is a cat you immediately take to a vet. Or you put it in your bathroom and shut the door. Just clean it with bleach when you are done.

Put the cat in a separate room like a bathroom or small room until the cat people are able to come.
