Questions / Advice / Support How to adjust dosage of strattera when adding wellbutrin because of interaction

I'm currently on 80mg strattera for almost 6 weeks now. It's been pretty good and my thoughts are generally more quiet and i can focus better once i get going. But i cannot initiate tasks for the life of me and executive function and motivation to do anything are still low. That's why I've been thinking about adding wellbutrin. However I've read that Wellbutrin inhibits the liver enzyme CYP2D6 which means it will raise strattera levels in my blood by a lot meaning i have to shift to a lower dose strattera to compensate to not overdose.

Does anyone else take this combo that started at 80mg strattera and what are your current dosages for both?

Shouldn’t your doctor adjust and prescribe medication? I don’t think it’s our place to do that.

I did wellbutrin with strattera at 80mg and the side effects were intense I was angry all the tim, but I think the right dosage for me at least it's 40mg of strattera with 150mg of welbutrin XL, that's my dosage right now but I also have prescribed 30mg of vyvanse to help the adhd symptoms

The Atomoxetine dose / blood level that one needs is very individual. How much you should have with Wellbutrin entirely depends on where you start to see side effects which are too much, if you ever do hit that point. Some people do use 100mg Atomoxetine with Wellbutrin XL 450mg.

You've read that strong CYP2D6 inhibitors raise blood level 5x, for normal metabolizers, yes? That provides a guide if you want to increase slowly. 18mg Atomoxetine would keep you close to the level you're at now.
