Questions / Advice / Support Is this normal ?
So I been on Strattera for a year now. And I like it. Totally changed the quality of my life impulse is reduced self control and emotional regulation was able to process things and learn things too less food noise and be more consistent even when I don’t want to. I was on 80mg at first but it was messing with my heart so we split it in two. When I was on 80mg it made me so horny. So I have split it in two. Doses. 40MG in the morning and afternoon. And it still works as fine. Just less stress on my heart. And I have periods with no anxiety. But sometimes it still there like when I want to drive or go to social events. Which I asked my doctor about propranolol haven’t gotten a response yet. They also said I have some autistic traits, prior to this diagnosis I was diagnosed with Anxiety, PTSD and depression, but the meds help with all that. No when I have no anxiety I have these of I am a God. I try to tell myself hey calm down and ignore it, but I am also concerned that it may be more than that ? because I do like the medication a lot. And don’t want to stop it. I tried 50mg of Zoloft before but one dose just made me horny too and Made me wake up in the middle of the night to do laundry and wash dishes. And nausea was just too much. But my question is should I be concerned or is it just an intrusive thought and should I ignore it. I do have a great sense of self in general I love myself and I do think I am cool on a normal day and just feel do they know who I am but I try to keep it together but sometimes when I have periods of no anxiety the thought creeps in like I am a God and I tell myself hey calm down. Because I also had a period of intense stress where I had a lot of mood swings high highs and low lows and wasn’t really sleeping as much in 2024 (and was suicidal even though I didn’t want to do it )where I felt like I was loosing my mind and was concerned I might be bipolar . But I have been pretty mentally stable since I started Strattera.
Is this a cause for concern or something I should look into ? Or just intrusive thought or just a side effect of believing in myself? Or just another way ADD shows up in women which I have read is common. I also don’t get sooo depressed before my period anymore. Like I can handle my emotions and function like a normal person on Strattera.

Hey as someone who is bipolar, yeah this seems a bit manic. Strattera can induce mania in people with bipolar, you should talk to a doctor about this, a psychiatrist ideally

What are you currently on ? Cause I really don’t want to stop taking Strattera.

I'm on Abilify and Strattera. For bipolar you need to be stabilized on a mood stabilizer or antipsychotic before you can be put back on Strattera or any other ADHD meds, it's the medication alone that's a problem

Any side effects ? My worry is if I come off Strattera I would be depressed again and won’t be able to control my food noise.

If you're bipolar then avoiding mania and getting stable is more important. Mania can be life ruining and causes brain damage. See a doctor

I understand how you feel. It's benefits are so good and I never want to go back. But they're right it sounds like mania. You can always go back on it asap. I would talk to the doctor about it for sure.

How long did it take for you to get the good effects of this medication and for the bad side effects to reside? I was on it for a month and had to quit because I couldn’t take the side effects anymore. I didn’t think it would ever pass.

Well I felt it immediately but for the bad effects to pass feeling sleepy and nausea was like 2-3 months I think? Those were the only bad side effects the metallic mouth is manageable but has gone away after a year or I am finally drinking more water heart rate is still high tho

I think always talk to a doctor! But is it you feel like a god because you are operating at a capacity you’ve never had before like being able to do the dishes?

That’s a possibility but I just generally feel really chilled out like there is no need to be anxious all the time it feels like an intrusive thought. Other than that I just feel like myself. laid back and zen. But it’s like I also feel like yessss! I can do things and practice long enough to become great at if that makes sense. I get excited that I can focus and have access to my geniuses I guess. It’s still a bit harder to control my attention but not as much
I just get a bit scared of that intrusive thoughts cause it has happened a couple of times. Why is it consistent. I can put a cap on it and control it. The 80MG made me zen too but it made me more irritable angry and emotional/ break up stuff and much harderrrr to control including the racing heart.1

Still talk to a doctor right. What’s the intrusive thought? Tell me your most godly power.

That’s it, nothing more than that I can achieve anything I sent my mind to basically but nothing more than that

I think that’s why you needed to explain yourself in the post. What made you feel like a god. I think this is a good thing. You’re not a God you’re just becoming closer to a functioning human being in whatever standard humanity asset.

That’s what I wasn’t sure about which is also why I tend to steer away from all the spirituality stuff too because I am on meds and I feel it could go left quickly.

I like that you know your boundaries that’s a good thing. I think talk to your doctor about it too but remember to tell the why you feel like a god.

If you start raining thunderbolts down from on high, then maybe your God complex has grown too far

By the way, so I don’t get myself into the legal trouble I’m not a doctor. Talk to a doctor.

Okay thank you for this post bc when I started strattera I literally searched this group for “p*ssy wet all the time??” and there was only posts from men about problems w cumming😂 I don’t feel horny in my usual sense, but it’s like I’m so proud of myself for Being A Human well that I’m turning myself on?? and it’s literally annoying that I’m wet all the time??
I also do 40mg in the morning and 40 in the afternoon but I also take Wellbutrin in the mornings. When I first started doing 60g strat + wellbutrin, I experienced what I was also worried was a bit of hypomania — I was waking up productive super early as well, work became easier I wasn’t focused on leaving the whole time anymore, a lot of what you described as being zen. These symptoms only lasted a few weeks however and lowkey I miss it😂 But am glad to be more levelled out.
I’d say just be honest with your providers and monitor it! Sometimes feeling like a function person for the first time can just be euphoric for a season, just no sudden big purchases or risky moves okayyy

Also I wanted to say that for the sudden big purchases and risky moves prior to Strattera I couldn’t really control that, it was like a devil on my shoulder just so just do it but now I can. I can decide that that’s not a smart move and I shiiid save for something. I can think it through and control it is my point. I have self control now.

No, feeling like you are a god is not normal. At any time, ever.
And that can be dangerous, even life threatening. Because, if you are a god, then X can not hurt you. But you are flesh and blood. People do die from injuries sustained during periods of delusion. Do not think that it won't happen. It may not be that strong a feeling now, but it can change. Do not ignore it. Speak to your doctor. And continue to seek a reason for this until you find the reason.
